Folks, could I ask for an opinion on this 2782 please.
I'm in no immediate rush to buy, the lad's birthday isn't until late March but I am finding it hard to find decent examples of what I'm after.
As always, any tips appreciated

it's very, very, heavily polished and a very poor redial.
compare this watch to other decent examples and you will clearly see the issues
hope that helps

edit:
after a quick search - here is a SS example sold by @MtV a couple of years ago
this shows the correct shape of the case and how the script on the dial should look.

OP, here's a listing for a cursive Geneve that you may wish to consider: https://www.chrono24.com/omega/omeg...34536409.htm?searchHash=438013a8_IZdQ0p&pos=6 The price is somewhat higher than your 1k Euro budget, but the seller's asking price is negotiable and the shipping fee may be as well. As the seller is in Germany and you are also in the UK, there shouldn't be any import taxes. The watch appears to be largely original to me although I'm not sure about the small seconds hand and the buckle, both of which may be replacements. The dial does show some patina, but it's not unattractive to my eye and the case lugs still have their chamfers. The seller offers a 14 day return policy and you would also have Chrono24's buyer protection as well (which you should review on their website). Please keep in mind that this watch, like most vintage watches, is not waterproof. If you buy it, you should caution your son to avoid wearing it in rainy or excessively humid weather and to avoid swimming and showering with it. I hope that this is helpful to you in your search.

I had spotted the inconsistent weight on the dial print, particularly on the "constellation".
I was unsure as to standard of the rest of the watch though and your advice re: polishing and case really will go a long way towards helping me get my eye in.
Thank you.

I really appreciate your sharing that link.
My C24 is currently full of models the majority of which are nowhere near the standard of this one.
Similarly on the budget, I may need to up it to round about the €1200 on that German model but, if I do?
I may well bump it a tad more and go for one of the following;
https://chrono24.app/omega/omega-vi...ial--id30073045.htm?SETLANG=en_GB&SETCURR=EUR That one is in the UK so I'll have to have it delivered to Northern Ireland to avoid a big VAT hit.

There's also a couple of others within the EU, that are a tad cheaper albeit also a little more patinad.

&
https://chrono24.app/omega/geneve-v...903--id34481518.htm?SETLANG=en_GB&SETCURR=EUR

My usual rule of thumb for real world pricing Vs Chrono24 asking prices is -20% which would bring the last 2 to my preferred budget.
I'm starting to learn this isn't as true for vintage as it is for the broader, non-trinity market.

You beat me to it, Norm, but thank you very much for pointing out the flaws in those watches to the OP. I also note that the regulator on the third watch is off center which gives me some pause about how well the watch was serviced by the dealer. OP, I think that you're better off with the Geneve that I recommended to you.

I just want to thank @gbesq for the heads up on a Cursive Geneve 2982 that popped up in the private sales section.
A lovely watch that fits my requirements perfectly👍
And, that come his 21st birthday in March will be sitting on my son's wrist.
Thank you, it is incredibly appreciated and I hope that I can pay the kindness back or forward!

Glad to be of service. You got a great watch from an OF icon. If the service history is unknown, which I assume it is, have it serviced by a competent independent watchmaker who has an Omega parts account before you give it to your son and then make sure that he has it serviced about every 5-7 years. Do NOT send it to Omega for service.

I use a good independent watchmaker in Ireland for my modern bits and he's actually far more well known for his vintage work.
So it will be off to him for a service.
It's a lovely watch and it is one that really hits everything he was after when he laid out what he wanted.
It's also not often I've ever looked for something horological and came in under budget.
