·Whilst scouring Ebay in the summer of 2017 this Jumbo reference 2486 Omega Cosmic TDMP popped up from a French seller with a great BIN price. The jumbo's in steel are very hard to find and at that point I didn't have a steel one in my Cosmic collection. So although this one has a strong patina I found it attractive enough to go for. Only one slight problem, the original case back had become lost at some point and had been replaced with a random ugly steel back which whilst covering the movement was neither a good snap fit or even the correct size. Hmm, well it took me all of half a nanosecond to realise the deal was still too good to let pass and to take a punt that somewhere down the line I'd be able to score a correct case back.
Here the ugly random case back...
I'd already been collecting these TDMP ref's for a few years so was fully aware that the chance of finding a 2486 steel case back in my lifetime was going to be pretty slim....but still it's always nice to have a few tricky projects on the go to keep things interesting, right guys? 😝
Checking Ebay pretty much at least weekly for all this time the years went by....nothing....after a few years I'd started looking at complete steel 2486's with redials as a caseback source but even these were selling in the € thousands, so that wasn't ever going to be an option....
And then out of the heavens a couple of weeks ago on a Sunday evening one finally popped up in Venezuela with a BIN/Make an offer. A deal was very quickly done with a great seller and yesterday it finally arrived after a long journey from South America...
....and now my watch is finally complete again!
