·I'm curious what members think qualify as vintage - my daily wearer is a 16760 1985 'fat lady' Rolex GMT-Master II. Does a 30 year old watch count as 'vintage'?
I do work in a "straight writing" Speedmaster 145.022-69 ST on Fridays, which would very clearly qualify.
But what constitutes "vintage"?
30 years is often seen as vintage (25 years plus)...by some... Sometimes it depends on the model and design , most often on the desire of the wearer... Or more often the seller!
In broader terms 100 years plus is antique, 25 plus Vintage 15 plus retro.
But that doesn't apply when you look at it from an era point of view and as it pertains to watches more than other jewelry or furniture. Pre Ww2 is perceived as Antique, seventies to ww2 as Vintage and 80's to 95 retro and 95 to 2015 modern.
Lastly within specific brands there are other factors. For example a Swatch from the 80's is a Vintage Swatch, while a Rolex sub from the 80's is retro or even almost modern if its late eighties. But the Daytona during eighties and even early nineties is seen as Vintage or retro depending on year and model and really not as modern until the non zenith models.
Confused yet?
