    Using a chain saw?
    Splitting logs with an axe?
Using a hammer drill whilst drilling into masonry?

I've only really got one watch which is my 2500 PO, other than a dive computer (Omer-omr1). I tend to wear it all the time. Just wondering whether you guys wear your watches for the above type of activities? How resistant to mild vibration are these watches?

I’d have one of my cheap Timex on doing stuff like that. Even if the watch could take it, why take the risk. Actually more concerned with case and crystal abuse.

II wear my mechanical watches while watching the gardener use a chain saw and split logs but I've never seen him use a hammer drill.

You are now authorized to correct me when I use "your" for "you're" or when I use a comma instead of a period.

On bike and car forums it's "break" instead of "brake". At least on this fine, best of forums one can correct mistakes in the thread title rather than have to suffer until a mod takes pity on you.

Like @Larry S noted, it's case damage one is most likely to suffer doing those activities. However case damage may occur just walking around the house as the #1 cause of case damage is door knobs.

Yup ... he charges £20 an hour and usually spends around 5 hours a month on my garden .... Honestly, it's just another chore I don't have to think about.

I wear my free Seiko at times when a watch might be at risk. But even at such times, I wear it only when I really need a watch.

I don't like wearing any watch when I do work that requires a lot of hard physical activity to my hands for the following reasons.

    1. I don't want the band to get all dirty , and sweat inside the band.

    2. Any strong banging or vibrations can't be good for a watch, especially an expensive watch. Why take the chance, especially if it could affect it and you may need to then service the watch later.

    3. I don't want to take risk of scratching the dial or bracelet.

    4. I want it to look like new as long as possible.

My standard answer for variations of this question.... but I also use a G-Shock and Tissot T-Touch when planning ahead of doing something too dodgy.....

Maybe just wear your best watch all the time.. ...a side benefit of wearing a nice watch you really love.... a few times I have hung back and reviewed the machine/situation in a bit more detail without diving into it hands first.....My wife says I worry about watches more than my hands.... So don't wear a beater watch / wear your best watch at all times......and keep all your fingers :0)

One of the doctors at the clinic I work at, a Dr. Seuss, has one, and I asked them that very question. Here's what he said:

"I wear it in the park; I wear it after dark. I wear it viewing frogs, I wear it splitting logs. I wear it hear and there; I wear it everywhere. " You should be okay...

Oh come on. That’s routine stuff. What about something more challenging like fighting off a grizzly? Nothing messes up a sapphire crystal quite like bear saliva.

Yes. I use the bezel to time when the beer break is due.

A hammer drill drilling into masonry is pretty tame. A better test is putting on a chisel bit and breaking up some concrete -- much more vibration/ impact than simply drilling.

I guess it depends on where you live. I prefer a FOIS as it seems to hold up well against the long claws.

I agree with @Larry S. I have a cheap timex for working with. Over the year from working on cars if you keep your good watch on then eventually your luck will run out and you might slip with the tool and damage your watch. Why take the risk. That said I have also dropped my watch on a concert floor when taking it off before a job, some times you can never win.
