One of the doctors at the clinic I work at, a Dr. Seuss, has one, and I asked them that very question. Here's what he said:

"I wear it in the park; I wear it after dark. I wear it viewing frogs, I wear it splitting logs. I wear it hear and there; I wear it everywhere. " You should be okay...

I hate to do this, but as long as we’re correcting each other on this thread, it should be “I wear it here”, not “I wear it hear.” Aside from that, I really like the Dr. Seuss reference!

By the way: good catch on your part. Lack of proof-reading is a pet-peeve of mine, so I feel the shame..

And, to be extra critical of myself: since, to the best of my knowledge, Dr. Seuss was not transgender, I should have referred to him not as "them," but simply as "him."

I have a simple G-Shock for just this purpose. It's simple, and doesn't get in it's own way when i want to do these things.

I wouldn't wear a watch I'd consider valuable to do heavy or mucky stuff that would be a risk to it. If I could afford to risk destroying them I would. I'd probably buy a Rolex sub or GMT and just wear it to do everything, just to see how f**ked up it gets.

Because I'm not wealthy I just bought a seiko 5 automatic "sea urchin" and am wearing it for every rough job I'm doing at the moment to see how long it survives.

I wore it to change brake discs a couple of weekends ago, been plastering with it on this weekend and also been cutting, painting and fitting skirting boards etc etc (I'm in the middle of renovating basically every room of the house).

I got filthy brake dust water all over it earlier, and some other no doubt nasty chemicals as I gave my car a thorough clean. I washed the watch off once I'd tidied everything away and it looks great again.

Apart from some light scratches on the bracelet and clasp, it's still looking spot on at the moment and keeping good time. I'll keep wearing it for these types of jobs until it breaks! I reckon it'll keep going for a long while.

Had to spend a good part of the workday popping ceiling tiles, wrestling with tall folding ladders, etc. I initially grabbed the Tintin this morning, but decided to offer the Sinn UX as the sacrifice to the ladder rail gods.

Heavy duty/military watches for risky activities, vacations, and when monkeying around...
