    Hi forum,

i remember from chemistry class in high school that gold had two desirable properties - it is soft and can be moulded and it is durable.

I am at the very beginning of my journey to find my Omega Constellation favourite reference, but what i do know is that i have settled for a solid gold case 18k.

I work at a bank and dress smart (think Ivy style) and i intend to wear this watch as a daily wearer at the office (oxford button downs and blazers/sweaters).

I am wondering if you could share your opinion on whether it’s a good idea to wear a gold watch daily, and if you could perhaps share pics of your vintage solid gold Omegas for me to drool over (needn’t be a Constellation).

How does it compare to vintage SS?? Do you find it dents too easily / much easier than SS?

    Your input is much appreciated!

Just take a look at these old gold watches. Not much wear is there.
I posted other models besides Omega, just to show how pretty they are.

As long as your shirt cuffs aren't starched to mid-Victorian levels of stiffness your gold watch should be fine in an office environment.

Here is some guidance I provided to one of our members some time ago.

And here's an example of a person wearing a solid gold watch that is potentially endangered by that super starched cuff!

Oh my god the description of french cuffed shirts had me in stitches

I wear, normal OCBD long sleeved shirts with generous space around the wrist. Plus the oxford cloth is rather soft so i expect no damage to come from it.

What a collection! Definitely something to aspire to! Also, the Constellation DeLuxe is a beauty! What reference is that if I may ask?

How much wrist time did these watches get would you say?

Risto, you pretty much posted the perfect collection I aspire to in the first three photos.

I own an 10K Hamilton Turner, like this one, made in 48 that I wear pretty regularly and the case is still in pretty nice shape. I am not sure but I would think that a lower carat case would wear a little better than a purer and softer case would. I can dig mine out later and take a photo if it'd help.

Yes, that would be most appreciated. It’d be great if you could snap pics from multiple angles ;)

    Thanks so much!

Gold watches age very well. I have a couple, they are over 40 yrs old and look amazing.

Gold plated wears off sometimes. Gold filled lasts better.

    Hello,
Please remember that another property of gold is that it is soft.
Think of the classic image of someone biting a gold coin to see if it was really gold. If it is real gold the teeth are harder than gold, and will make a mark, but if it was gold plated steel your teeth would not penetrate it.
So any rub or ding with anything hard (metal, glass, etc.) could potentially dent or scratch your gold watch.

That being said, If you are careful there should be no problem with a gold watch for daily wear. I wear my gold cased Omegas often when I am wearing suit and tie, sometimes with cuff links, and sometimes without. Neither the cuff links, nor the jacket and shirt buttons touch the watch case, so no chance of denting there. The only chance of denting is if you actually bang the case against hard things.

This is one of them: Omega cons luxe 1.jpg

I am in love with your watch!!! This is precisely the setup I am going for - solid gold, pie pan dial with arrowhead markers.

Have got 4000EUR saved up and ready to pull the trigger once I come across one in good condition.

The lugs look really funky on your one. What reference is this?
