I buy and wear what I like, not what people tell me is hip, so for some of us they never went out of fashion 馃榾

I am in love with your watch!!! This is precisely the setup I am going for - solid gold, pie pan dial with arrowhead markers.

Have got 4000EUR saved up and ready to pull the trigger once I come across one in good condition.

The lugs look really funky on your one. What reference is this?

I believe it is a calibre 505 model 293. Constellation grand luxe has the hooded lugs which are typical of this model.
MIne has the stepped dial, while others have polished pie pan steps.

May I suggest you look in the Sales area of the Forum?
You may be pleasantly surprised by some of the pieces offered there.
Note: I have no association with any of the sellers, but there is probably no better place to find an honest piece.

I literally just now finished up reading an article on Desmond's blog about the De Luxe line and there I saw for the first time the stepped dial. Then I open Omega Forums and see your post! 馃榾

Alas, stepped dials in the De Luxe Line are apparently quite uncommon and buying a Grand Luxe, I imagine, is well beyond my budget of 4000-4500EUR.

Stepped faceted dials notwithstanding, I really like the aesthetic of the polished facets. So far, early in research, 2 references are emerging as favourites - 2853 and 14382. Of course, there is still so much to learn about this illustrious line of watches, including the movements and the case designs 馃榾

Ever since I decided to take the plunge and buy my first expensive watch (which I do intend to keep for the rest of my life and pass on to next generation), I have been checking the private watch sales forums daily (first thing I get out of bed and just before I go to bed). 馃榾

The last mention of De Luxe was by a senior member on this forum, @Hijak, who sold this magnificent example of a Cal. 2799.
https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-constellation-18k-gold-deluxe-ref-2799-cal-354-1954.102513/

I am resisting my urge hard not to get a Rolex Explorer 36mm (114270), because I know I'll always be lusting over a Constellation, but they seem to rarely come up on Omega Forums and I don't feel comfortable buying from eBay and Chrono24. :|

Anyway, thanks for your feedback! You have my grail watch 馃榾 If you ever decide to sell it, or if you come across a watch which fits my description above please do drop me a line!

Mouthwatering indeed! Thanks for posting!

Where do these people buy all these watches in mint condition? Surely not on eBay or Chrono24 or Omega Forums?

Maybe some will pop up around that price, which seems to fit your budget

How about this one?

I was thinking you would spot it.

Again, no association with the seller but it looks like a fine piece...
Thanks for going out of your way to be so helpful @JBDinMad! Greatly appreciated!

Yes, I have indeed seen this watch before. I agree that it is in a great shape (from what I can tell), however, there may be 2 things which make this a non-starter for me.

1) The seller's based in the US, which means that I'll be slapped with a thick import tax (I am based in Vienna, Austria, EU) around 1/3 of the price and more importantly,
2) As advertised, the engravings on the case back show that this is a 14381/2 reference, which makes this a non De-Luxe model, despite the solid gold case. This was brought to my attention a couple of days ago, when I stumbled upon the post by @cristos71

Okay, here are some photos of my 10k Hamilton, it's 71 years old and still looks good. I tried to get it from several different angles to show how sharp the case still is.

Not quite I am afraid. I always thought my first watch would be a Rolex, and then I saw a picture of Kennedy wearing a solid gold Omega at this inauguration and I was hooked 馃榾

To me Omega Constellation is my aspirational piece, and the fact that Omega has lost its prestige and history has dealt the brand crappy cards is of no interest to me.

Don鈥檛 know which fact you are you talking about. Omega still has its prestige and history in spades 馃槜

hello @Epictetus
Not quite correct. de luxe model have the same gold cases as non de luxe models and only differ by their gold dials. and so the cases are marked with dual references.
In the case above the de luxe reference would be 14382 - which is common to both pie pan and dome dial de luxe variations.

Thanks for shedding more light on the matter! However, this makes me even more confused. If the reference on the inside of the case back only refers to the case, how could one be sure that a watch is indeed 14382 if the case back reads 14381/2? Should 14382 exist anywhere on the watch or is it inferred by the gold dial?

In other words, a watch with a gold dial and a case back with a reference of 14381/2 is indeed 14382. Correct?

I was just referring to the fact that Omega watches are no longer as desirable as Rolex, and they don't seem to have their value as well either.

As I stated above, Omega is my favourite brand and I really dig some of their new pieces a lot as well, like the 1948 Seamasters and Globemasters. I just wish they made them in 36mm.

Regarding how well gold watches age...just go mine back from service and it is looking fine.

Just one thing, I always assumed it was a 505 caliber (don't know why, I just did), but it turns out it is a 501 caliber.

When I got this watch from my father some years ago, he had it serviced before he gave it to me so I never saw the insides of it until just now when I sent it for service.

I wear this watch 2/3 times a month and with its 501 caliber it runs great, so no complaints.
