Hodinkee is now an Omega AD

Meh.....you can get the same item at your local boutique or from Omega's own eCommerce site, incl free shipping and returns. If I pay with AMEX I get TWO extra years on the warranty, so Hodinkee's extra year is worth nothing. But I think a lot of millennials and Gen-Z'ers have grown up with Hodinkee and there may be a trust bond there. It's all good to reach more people, some like to stay within an AD environment.

Right it will definitely not be those that are deal hunting. But I see people walking in and out of the Omega Boutique paying retail for their watches no questions asked. There are more than 1 type of consumer

I guess both parties saw business opportunity in this agreement. I don’t think there will be many customers ordering standard collection. Going to OB and buying for full price sometimes gives you extra benefits (trip to Switzerland, Moonwatch only Book, etc) while Hodinkee experience will be just paying full price + extra 1 year of service.

Maybe they plan number of limited editions with Hodinkee and needed to grant them AD status to support it?😜

Just remember there are places without AD or boutiques.

They can order directly from Omega in that case?

You can order directly from Omega in the U.S., but they will not give any discount.

But Hodinkee will neither. I was responding to the statement that there are some places where there are no AD or OB.

good for them but would never shell out 5350 for a moonwatch...

not worth $2k for that extra year IMO.
Agreed

I was able to free some time and stop by.
Too be real honest, nothing really exciting unless you are interested in seeing some of their straps in person.

CLYMER:
"No discounts, ever. Do you ask for a discount on a Chanel bag? The industry is changing, and brands are becoming more aligned with reality in terms of their own pricing. We offer SO much value add versus most retailers, the idea of discounts is seldom even broached by the buyers. The days of discounts on truly great watches are coming to an end, broadly speaking."

Maybe "in a galaxy far, far away", sometime in the future, but unless the supply matches demand at a price deemed fair by the potential buyers there is always pressure to get the price corrected to what the market will bear. Unfortunately companies like Omega overproduce which interferes in the 'no discounts, ever' dream. Hodinkee may have enough people who will pay full price due to affinity and trust in the Hodinkee site. We'll have to wait and see how this all pans out.

Yep...that's what he said. I'm not sure how that will play out, but I don't see anything wrong with Hodinkee becoming an AD. More power to them!
