Just looking at the straps on the omega site - it allows you to change virtually - wow what a change in appearance of the watch. Superb!

I wear my speedy on an OEM bracelet, OEM leather band, NASA velcro replica band, leather nato, fabric nato etc. It's almost like wearing a new watch and I can dress up or dress down the watch according to my mood or situation.

I've seen these situations play out poorly in the past. While a very good intention, make certain that your partner will like it before you spend such a great deal of money. A trip to a boutique will reveal his tastes based on simple observations an innocent talk on the way home.

It’s a good point. However fortunately I have a back up. My friend who is helping me with this has had a few watch chats with my partner and it was my partner who mentioned Speedmaster. Furthermore if he opens it and likes it but wishes the money had gone towards another watch instead, like the Panerai our friend will be eagerly waiting in the background to buy the SP off me for himself. He really loves and at that price wants it even more. That’s why I feel more sure about buying it knowing I have a back up.

Good Morning All. Well the day has arrived when I collect 'The Watch' we have all discussed. Nervous as hell for some reason! I will be sure to send a photo. Anyway we have some friends that have been asking if they could buy my partner a dual Watch Winder. Now I know there are so many to look at. But more importantly would it be a wasted gift if not needed? HELP! So as you know he currently has the Omega Planet Ocean which is I believe an Automatic (have to shake it to start it??). But I believe the Moonwatch is 'Mechanical' which I presume would not need a winder. SO HELP IS NEEDED AGAIN!! I may got this all wrong of course!

I guess this is a personal preference. I don't use a winder, just adjust the time, put the watch on the wrist and wear it.
Yes, hand wound watches don't need a winder.

I'm really just commenting to see the photos that you've promised but will also address the question of a winder: the "Moonwatch" isn't simply mechanical, it is "hand-wound". To modern eyes that might seem anachronistic (I love that word - just means old fashioned or ot of date) ... in fact, it creates a little ritual and connection to your watch when you pick it up in a morning and wind the crown and/or set the time. For that reason, the winder is superfluous to requirements.

That's interesting actually. I like that thought process.

My other concern of course is having a watch winder out on display with watches nearing 8k - my partner wouldn't wear either of these watches during the day I don't imagine due to his line of work.

Shhh .... There are many watch boxes in this world that are worth more than the houses they sit in. Just have a good alarm system and a 12 bore ... I had it out for cleaning, officer.

Don't bother with a winder, no need. A nice watch box or roll will suffice. Seen as the Moonwatch is a manual wind, as stated one section will be redundant - thats if of course he doesn't buy another automatic watch...

See you in a year or so when he has 5 more lol

Morning All! Well today was the day. Thank goodness as it was a beast of a box to hide. Never in a million years would you guess a watch was inside it. My man was speechless. He absolutely loved it. Everything about the moonwatch hit him in a good way. The box with its accessories just added to the excitement. The extra 2 straps are fabulous. I cannot thank you guys enough for all your help. Hopefully I will be back for his 60th 😀. Photo attached as promised.

Dimples, you are truly what we guys call a true Honeybear. Your man is very fortunate far beyond watches 😀
