FOIS discontinued.

That was the price when discontinued ie now I think. From memory, when launched back in 2012 the RRP was below £3k inc VAT so circa €4K then (inc VAT/TVA), or ~$4K USD before sales tax. I have tried to search the launch publicity for a price but can't find it in USD or GBP.

another data point from 2016 -- $5,300, as discussed here

Was it launched at a price premium to the Pro? I know in Canada it sold for slightly less by the end.

Dunno; the question being posed is about its original MSRP when launched in 2012 and not how it was actually selling after discounts. I'll have to look at the hang tag of mine which I believe is from a ~2014 production.

I think it was priced below the Pro since it didn't come with the giant box and all the extras. The FOIS came with a special normal sized box with just the watch.

This thread is relevant to my interest 😀

I’ve been wanting to get another Speedy (I sold my first one) and I’m it sure whether to go with the FOIS or the Pro.

As most people are saying - it's the best to have both for a while and make decision. I had a Pro for couple of years, then bought FOIS and after couple of months sold Pro - I simply like more elegant look of FOIS, even though I fully agree it is less legible at some angles. But real blackness of the dial and shiny alpha hands are the winners for me. But hey - everyone has got his own taste and preferences. Pro is definietly much better every day & toolwatch, legible at any angle or light.

I made some comparison of both, unfortunately it's in Polish only, but maybe the video will help you to chose anyway:

I think this is the main reason for FOIS being discontinued, adding also new calipers to come:

I am hopeful that there is confirmation soon of whether the 321 bracelet fits on the fois.

Even if it fits, I'm happy with my US, and wouldn't pay 1k € to get one.

Nine pages and not a single photo of what’s being imitated? I can’t resist.

I think the FOIS fails to reach the original’s beauty. Little things that are different and make a difference to me: flat hands, revised minute track, unconvincing AML, sapphire crystal and that unnecessarily thick caseback. Where’s the guy who complained that that caseback was tattooing his wrist?

And yeah, 15,000 editions.

Obviously, even an idiot like me isn’t using a 2998 as a daily watch, but I’d love to wear something everyday that really looked like it. When I first saw the FOIS, I was disappointed. Omega’s revised EW 321 is a better homage to that original than this is.

If I was shopping for a Speedmaster to wear everyday in this price range, I’d either be looking at a new hesalite or, more likely, a really nice 70’s 145-022. Maybe Omega will do a better job next time.

My two cents. I’ll sit down and shut up now. 😗

IDK. I'm not a Speedster purist, and didn't for a minute think I was buying a faithful re-edition of the original (or an original) when I bought it. I do own a few vintage Omegas, which are not daily wearers and will never be now, and a few of the Trilogies, and I don't really think of the latter as originals either.

Instead, I think of the FOIS as a sturdy, daily-wearable, distinctive modern take on a vintage Speedmaster, maybe even a palimpsest of them, and I think it succeeds best on those terms, with its own take on case size and shape, handsets, logo and even caseback. It's also a watch for those who love the Speedy Pro but prefer the case, lugs, sharper dial and overall looks, greater ease of winding, etc. IMO.

And at 1/4 the price of an Ed White, and what seems to have just become a legacy movement, I'm very happy with mine, in a way I just wasn't with other Pros I've owned. Horses for courses, I guess.

New Forstner bracelet, coming soon:

Beautiful. FOIS bracelets are like watch chocolate. More-ish.

Anyone have a Forstner and US to compare which one is preferred? Right now I'm in the US camp because he did the 1171 bracelet first.

I managed to pick up the FOIS in the Ernest Jones sale.

I own a Moonwatch so don’t want to put it on a stainless strap but am not a fan of the brown leather,

Looking at either the black NATO with white border or black NATO with grey border. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I wear mine just on black NATO and it kicks ass in my opinion 👍

A flat link bracelet is different enough to your Pro, and looks astonishing.

Interesting. Should I be looking at the 1125 / 617 bracelet or the Forstner?

I second this. The flat link offerings from US and Forstner with the polished edges look amazing on the straight lug models. I too acquired a FOIS recently in the same way and I'll be using a flatty after I get bored with this (non std) deployant number:

And here is an earlier straight lug using an US 1035:
