Nine pages and not a single photo of what’s being imitated? I can’t resist.

I think the FOIS fails to reach the original’s beauty. Little things that are different and make a difference to me: flat hands, revised minute track, unconvincing AML, sapphire crystal and that unnecessarily thick caseback. Where’s the guy who complained that that caseback was tattooing his wrist?

And yeah, 15,000 editions.

Obviously, even an idiot like me isn’t using a 2998 as a daily watch, but I’d love to wear something everyday that really looked like it. When I first saw the FOIS, I was disappointed. Omega’s revised EW 321 is a better homage to that original than this is.

If I was shopping for a Speedmaster to wear everyday in this price range, I’d either be looking at a new hesalite or, more likely, a really nice 70’s 145-022. Maybe Omega will do a better job next time.

My two cents. I’ll sit down and shut up now. 😗

Totally agree. I also found the case finishing on the FOIS to be underwhelming, although I have never handled a 2998 in person...

? What’s « underwhelming » with the FOIS’ case finishing please?

I dont agree. Firstly the case finishing is as good as any other Speedmaster.
If the original 2998 was in the same price category and not 5x the FOIS price, than obviously most would prefer the original. But for what you pay FOIS has really a lot to offer.
I am not saying FOIS doesnt have any flows, in fact i hate the caseback, but beside that its a superb watch.

Interesting. Should I be looking at the 1125 / 617 bracelet or the Forstner?
I am using Uncle Seiko, but ordered separately Forstner end links in both 19 and 20mm, as I prefer their look (slimmer, less straight at the bottom and are not hollow)
Can't go wrong with neither, anyway.

New Forstner bracelet, coming soon:

Which bracelet is this? Looking on their website there are brushed and unbrushed options. Please advise.

Agree -- having owned both, the FOIS's level of finish is at least equal to and perhaps superior to the .005, the one I had, anyway. The grain of the brushed surfaces and sharpness of the facets is simple but very sharp and pretty much flawless, as is the finishing of the dial and hands, alignment of markers and indices, and so on.

The EW 321 looks like it's on a different level in terms of finishing -- as it should be, at nearly 4x the cost. I imagine there are quite a few pieces at the EW 321's price point that would provide a closer standard of comparison.

They aren't available yet. It was and advance on their Facebook.
Looks similar to 1171 Uncle Seiko model, already available.

Mine isn't upside down but it's not aligned straight either. The horse head is point to the upper left.

I just realised that the case back is upside down. Is this normal? I have not had this on any of my other Omegas.

There is no upside down in space 😁

Id like to see them side by side.

Im looking at my FOIS right now - I honestly cant find anything that could be classed as inferior, lower quality or underwhelming...comparing to a Tokyo 2020, yes they are different watches but same family and really cant see anything inferior about the FOIS...

I remember, on here, three years ago when we were saying the FOIS was going to be discontinued.

Sad to see it finally happened.

Yes I’ve a few speedies, I can’t fault my FOIS, as stated a few times here in many ways it’s my favourite speedie, even today looking down at it it’s still a wow watch to me (and I own the 50th moonshine, Apollo 8 etc).

I was happy to buy a FOiS today at a OB, maybe one of the last. I like the size because 42 mm sometimes look a bit disproportionate on my wrist.
The quality is close to the 321 in my opinion. Maybe I can post some macros in the next days to compare both watches side by side.

Please update this topic with some macro photos next to the 321

It's actually a very high number, he has blurred the last 2 digits lol.

Is that a Forstner flat link?
