I got mine in the very last moment, it was in the display window at Warsaw airport. Previously I had a lot of fun with modding of a Seiko SKX, never thought I would even slightly mod my Omega 😉 But this happend with FOIS - wanted to bring it to my ideal config:
- changed the caseback into sapphire-display and did some custom engraving on it
- out Uncle Seiko flatlink bracelet, polished out the US logo and laser-engraved Omega logo instead.

Now it looks as I want it to 😀

Very nice indeed. have been thinking recently of swapping the solid caseback for a sapphire. Which version did you use?

Looks very nice 👍 who did the polishing/engraving work on the clasp?

Myself with standard polishing paper. Then I used dishwashing sponge (the rough part) to finish it with "proper" brushing. Obviously I had secured small polished outside parts with scotch tape.

Nice that. Thomas Preik has done aftermarket backs for years but those have a rounded profile, the one you show has a more original look.

I got one of these for a build I am preparing. Indeed the double step seems to be much closer to the original. Preik offers metal spacers to ensure that the movement remains in place. Spiral offers a gasket. Not a huge problem but worth keeping in mind and changing it every so often before it becomes gunk...

Can't an original omega equipment Sapphire caseback from a 1861 moonwatch fit a fois?

I think it can, provided you do the spacers yourself (as written above some aftermarket manufacturers deliver proper metal or gasket part).

The thing that would bother me would be improper engravings on the caseback, which refer to first watch worn on the moon, which FOIS is not. Price is probably another discussion here 😉

Got my Uncle Seikos today. Really nice vintage touch. Looking forward to trying also 1171.
I also bought both the flat link and the 1171. I put on the 1171 and have the flat link sitting unused. I also have a Speedy Racing bracelet and rubber strap with deployant. I spent way too much money getting all these accessories for my FOIS.

Looks great!

Your pics give me a renewed appreciation for the way that this version's combo of brushing/polish works with the FOIS. I went for the all-brushed, and while I really like its austere charm, and the way it pushes the focus onto the watch head, it isn't a super-dynamic look. May pick up another option going forward.

They've taken my money and given me a delivery date of the 29th December. I'll let you know if it arrives. Fingers crossed.

What was the MSRP of the FOIS at launch? Cheers
In 2016 it was $5300 in the US. I'm not sure what the price was in 2012 but it was probably still close to that number.

This thread is relevant to my interest 😀

I’ve been wanting to get another Speedy (I sold my first one) and I’m it sure whether to go with the FOIS or the Pro.

€4,700 -- according to this article.

.
That was the price when discontinued ie now I think. From memory, when launched back in 2012 the RRP was below £3k inc VAT so circa €4K then (inc VAT/TVA), or ~$4K USD before sales tax. I have tried to search the launch publicity for a price but can't find it in USD or GBP.
