I will second Rbob's recommendation of Jerry here in Seattle. Very reasonable rates; he has done several of my watches and they all are working super well. Be sure to be 100% clear with him not to do any restoration on the case, dial, or hands...like many watchmakers he sees that as part of his service. I had asked him to not touch the cases, but didn't say anything about hands; he relumed the hands on a cheap Seiko which I didn't love, but good to learn on that rather than something else! Very nice person as well.

Good luck with the service, I have 6139-6012 and its been out for service for awhile because it keeps running slow. By the way, no one's mentioned it, but Bruce Lee owned this same model of watch, the 6010.*

Definitely no re-lume with this service. Whether something was done before, I'm not quite sure. The lume, however, is not visible in the dark at all.

So, OP, did you find someone to service your watch? FWIW, it looks as if the chrono and subdial might have been replaced at some earlier stage; if you get the back off it you may see some service marks inside?

I'd presume it to be a 6139A movement and they would originally have come with a 2-piece chrono hand, identifiable by the metal center, but if the hand was ever replaced it would have been swapped by a later 1-piece job. The subdial hand would match the main chrono hand, and it's very unlikely to have bleached in colour from a vibrant red to a beige, so I'd assume it was swapped out too.

Whatever - I would leave the hands exactly as they are.

As far as bracelets, they would probably have come on a 3-link bracelet which looks like

Some people (incorrectly IMHO) call this a railroad bracelet; I think that should be used to refer to the 2-line one that's seen in some catalogs:

Uncle Seiko does a good aftermarket "railroad" for 6139-601x, and you can find the 3-link ones on eBay; in fact the photo I showed is a seller who's shifting supposedly NOS 3-link bracelets for $50.

When I first started getting into watches I would call around to all the local shops to price compare. Then later on I found out, you pretty much get what you pay for and most of the good shops are too busy to take your business immediately. Kinda like the situation you're in now. I don't mind that they're candid. Just care if they are doing a good job.

Thanks for that. These guys are quite proud of themselves, "have 400.00 minimum to service your watch or don't even call us" and a 75.00 inspection fee.

Seiko USA also does repair work on almost all of their old calibers including the 6138 and 6139. Their prices are quite reasonable given the fact that this is a chronograph.

They are up front saying that they no longer have the waterproof gaskets for the 6138 and 6139 cases.

You will need to send the watch to NJ though. Worth a shot, I think. At least you know any parts replaced will be Seiko parts, which could be hard to get anywhere else.
