condition "as found or as lived" id keep it that way. as far as internal maintanance -- " if the tractor runs; drive it" i have a speedmaster from about 1966, it runs, the crystal is the only id change. im shure the highly re-polished and re-built watch is worth more. let the next owner ponder that. vinn

I sent mine to Nesbits in Seattle and they did a fantastic job on mine.

So, if you get a hold of a 1966 corvette stingray you wouldn't bother to even do an oil change? Running any mechanical device dry, even a watch, leads to wear and tear of the internal bits. Once the exact tolerances are shot they are not going to get any better. If the watch doesn't see a lot of wrist time sure, but if it is a daily watch it would be foolish not to.

Highly re-polished vintage watch would be worth a lot less.

Be sure to get clear pics of the inside case back, the movement and the serial number on the escape wheel bridge when the back is off as this will be the real starting point to determine exactly what it is you are looking at.

Agree with Spacefruit: "I don't know the states but consider sending to Archer." He is a member here as well.

compare a corvette to a sealed watch very nutty! i have worked on both - a cheap watch with no jewels --- you might be right

A neighbor of mine used to have a '65 he got in the late 70's. He lost his license early on and stopped driving it, then joined the military for 20 years, came back and never got around messing with it. I spotted it one day literally buried on his garage under, well everything. I used to stop by for a beer and to bug him about selling it but it was one of those that would not move from that garage until he was gone.

With your recommendations, watches won't last long either. 😉
