It looks as though they try and improve the flow of play whilst still overturning/correcting bad decisions (or lack of any). But the new ‘offside’ way of notifying later seems to not be as intended…
Yeah, I just don’t get that one. Why let play go on for 10 seconds and then raise the flag that we all knew should have gone up? Other than that, I think they’ve done really well with the officiating/ VAR

I friggin hate that sh*t too.... players are expected to keep playing even if they know they are offside!!
P.S. Come on England!!!!!

On the other hand I always hated defenders raising their hand, signalizing the offside and not defending anymore. So many unnecessary goals have been scored because of this. Now they know they have to keep playing. And they do. But yes. in some cases the offside is so obvious that not raising the flag immediately doesn't make sense at all.

Let us now give thanks...

Matthews, Finney, Lofthouse,
Smile down upon us.
Moore, Banks, Charlton (R), Hurst,
Come to our aid.
Greaves, Gazza, Keegan
Let history be re-written.
Peters, Scholesey, Hod,
Warp time and space once more.
Shear-errrrr,
No more talk, just bring lethal.

I wouldn’t say ‘unnecessary’ goals…always nice to see netted balls 😀 (pun not intended)…

Whilst we are in the topic of things we dislike about the sport: how about all those egotistical primadonna footballers who foul mouth and shout at the ref/linesmen as though they are going to make them change their decision ::facepalm1:: Never in the history of the sport has it ever worked… the beeeeeatches need a green card…which means ‘you are suspended and have to play 3 games of rugby before you can come back on the football pitch’. That ought to sort them…

Well, I honestly admire how the temper is handled in rugby. That’s just awesome. Absolute respect to ref is one of the things I like to watch rugby. All these primadonas shouting at refs should be sent off straight away. That’s really what pi** me off the most. Especially south/south east countries are the best at this.

Congrats to England supporters! I don’t remember when England beat Germany on final tournament if ever? Interesting that all qualified teams from the group of death (GER, FRA, POR) are out just after the first play-off round.

Belgium - Italy will be super match in quarterfinals.

England deserved the win and were strong in most positions against a team who can score no matter what the situation. It has been made all the sweeter because England had to wait 55 years for the knockout victory over Germany. I feel this will gel the team together in the belief they can go on to at least the final.

Belgium vs Italy has all the makings of a classic match and I am going to predict a Belgian win if Hazard and Kevin DB are fit. The Italians will be good in the first half but will fade in the second half.

The best match so far for me was Switzerlands massive victory over France. For 20 minutes we saw how devastating the French can be but 20 minutes in four games is and was not enough.

I love this game.

1966 was the last time England beat Germany in a tournament. Also happens to be the last time England won a tournament.
The exciting thing about these completions is that you have to bring your A game to every round. Well done England, who knows, they might even get a spot in the final.

Arrgh...

Finally had a chance to catch a match on replay: England v Germany on ESPN News. The broadcast cut away after the 1st half and never came back for the 2nd. Rat bastards!

Actually England beat Germany 1-0 at Euro 2000 thanks to an Alan Shearer header in our so-called ‘group of death’ alongside Portugal and Romania. That seemed to get glossed over in all of yesterday’s build up as it didn’t really fit the ‘1966’ narrative. The stat in question relates specifically to knockout tournament games against Germany.

What a thriller in ESP-SUI game. I was cheering for Swiss team because I’m not a fan of Spanish football but congrats to España.

Now the very anticipated game. Italy or Belgium? I hope devils will go through but Italians look very strong on this tournament.

The creaky old Belgium defence was, as predicted by many pundits, caught out again. Shame really, as they can be an exciting team to watch going forward. The Azzurri are looking unstoppable though, it’s going to be hard for any team to beat them with their momentum.

Italy deserved their victory, however I don't like the fact that they roll around on the floor for an hour if a hair gets blown out of place by a breeze. Italy,Spain France, all good at making the most out of nothing and calling it the dark arts of football. Its cheating and dishonest and should be stamped out with a yellow card for every offence. There was a player towards the end, rolling around in the penalty area and when Italy scored, he got up and started doing back flips. Cheating bastard.

I made the wrong call backing Belgium and will hold my hand up and admit I was wrong. Kevin DB looked like a man seeking out a reason to have a fight or a little moan rather than doing anything constructive. Lukaku looked like he played for the Republic of Ireland, all alone in the oppositions half hoping one long ball would drop for him.

Italy on the other hand were scintillating and opened the Belgians up at will. They really excel in the amateur dramatics department and for this reason I hope they don’t win and an honest team like Spain or England wins it. Say no to Racism but cheat like sailors girlfriend !! Seriously UEFA get your act together.

Absolutely. Here is what happened before and during the first goal. Everyone had to notice that. I hate it so much.
