2025, February 26 American actor Eugene A. Hackman passed away...
We'll remember him for amazing roles in detective movies but also for the 1969 SciFi movie "Marooned, the Sage of Ironman One !"
In that movie, Hackman was an astronaut, named Buzz Lloyd, who after five months in the space station, began to perform erratic and substandard so NASA decided to bring the crew home. The Command Module "Ironman One" thrusters failed and the crew was effectively marooned in orbit.
Not giving the plot away, it's an interesting movie involving the mission controllers, military personnel and even the astronauts' wives.
Wristwatch-wise interesting as at least half-a-dozen Omega Speedmaster "Ultraman" 145.012-67 chronographs can be spotted as both the astronauts and the mission controllers (Gregory Peck) wore such an "Ironman" Speedmaster with distinctive red chronograph hand !

Great actor, and I'm not prone to using hyperbole.

Obviously outstanding as Popeye Doyle in The French Connection, but my favorite is his role in a much lesser known film, with which the famous director is also not primarily associated...

The thread title threw me off. Only his mom, and only when he was in trouble, likely called him Eugene.

It’s like the using “United States of America Air Force” instead of USAF.

But it’s the first thread I opened, so thanks for the info.

He was excellent.

Crimson Tide is one of those movies that I'll often stop and watch regardless of how many times I have seen it.

His 70s work is iconic, along with The Conversation, I highly suggest watching Scarecrow and Night Tides, maybe his finest performance.

I had not realized it was him in Poseidon Adventure, which was a movie I always liked as a kid. But he was my favorite character in Superman as Lex Luthor. I thought for some reason that suited him perfectly.

I absolutely loved him in “The Quick and the Dead” (with Sharon Stone, Russell Crowe, and Leonardo DiCaprio). Also as the bad guy in “Unforgiven” (with Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, and Richard Harris). Actually, you’ll hate his character because he’s that good! Gene Hackman could play cold-hearted, sadistic, and mean to the core as well as anyone.

But he was found dead in his home along with his wife and dog, and no foul play is suspected. Hmmm…🤔 We need to keep watching the headlines as this story unfolds.

My first thought was CO, but they are saying that's not it, and apparently another dog inside the house was OK.

The real story of "Gene" .....
Pretty interesting too.
"It took a while".

Link should be Letterman 1988 why Gene joined the Marines

RIP Gene

I’ve never seen a movie that I didn’t like his performance in. The Conversation is just fantastic, even though it’s not one of the most popular.

I’ve watched a ton of his movies over the last couple of years…
