Unnecessary.
PayPal go with the buyer 99.9% of the time, and there is no way of submitting "Video evidence" to them nor is it necessary.
Okay. I would still shoot a video of it being opened. You don't have to.

But why would you open yourself up to being scammed in the first place? If you had the choice of:

A) NOT being scammed
B) Being scammed and (possibly) getting your money back

...why not choose A? I suppose you’re banking on there being an option C, which is that you get the watch for the ludicrously low price being asked, but I think that’s unlikely.
We are currently assumeing the seller is a scammer. We don't know with certainty.

Because he's protected.
Plus, if you use a credit card through PayPal (like an AmEx for example) then you're double protected and without even using your own money.
Like wearing two condoms when banging a questionable chick...
Take a chance, double bag it, and take the ride. You might even enjoy it at the end!

I'm guessing the seller is OK.
He was just trying to get out of paying $425 in eBay final value fees.

Simply invite seller onto this platform. 😀
Likely trying to cut lost through outside ebay.
Benefit of doubts. Watch and seller may after all be both legit.

Oh wow. Just spoke to the seller and found him on ig. He's involved with the local NYC watch community quite abit. I messaged him on ig just to be sure and he has sent videos and pics of the watch.

He works with a pretty popular watch dealer/shop so I guess he's OK.. Like what @ndgal said, he's just trying to save on fees.

He's sent me a video too. Looks nice.

Thanks to everyone for helping me. I know it was a 50/50 but with eBay and paypal backing me, I was gonna give it a go. Now with the assurance that he isn't a scammer etc, I'm looking forward to the watch 😀

Yes, I momentarily forgot about that.

I think perhaps everyone in OF have had some bad experience with eBay scammers before.... And I know I should listen to the community here because they don't want me making their mistakes.

On the other hand, I thought about it and realized that if the deal went through via eBay, it shouldn't be that bad. Like @Kmart mentioned why bother going through the hassle when you have money in the pocket. I know that feeling. But I guess it was worth the shot in my personal opinion 😀

He's sending it via FedEx and we are friends on ig now. He apologized for any miscommunication and I did like wise.

I'll post pics of it when I receive it. Thank you OF

Only 4k for a bona fide vintage sm300 is a great deal.
Bona fide? Hmm... ever seen a chronometer texted upper bridge on a cal 552?
@sdre great that the seller doesn't seem to be a scammer, and he properly don't/didn't know, but that bridge was not on a SM300 originally IMO. Did you get the full serial / care to share the five first digits?

I haven't heard of limits where the seller can't take money. Sounds odd/unsafe to me.
EBay do apply limits to accounts but the seller can request those limits are raised. I'm sure the aim is to reduce eBay's exposure. As an example, my eBay account is limited to £10,000 or 100 items per month.

Got me there..didn't see that. Maybe that's why the price was only 4k in the end?
Worst case, can he just find a proper 552 transplant? They can be had for less than $500 online..

Yeap thats the idea too. I can probably source for it. He did say its an original 552 movement. Let me verify with him first 😀

Thanks for the catch.

I believe the chronometer versions were cal. 551.
Those watches you have pictured have probably recieved replacement bridges from a donor movement.
See the totally different patina on the bridge compared to the rest of the movement?
