Okay. Turn of events. I checked my payout and this time I'm able to make payment in eBay.

I went ahead to make the payment (since it's within eBay) so I'm gonna see if it's worth a shot at it.

I will take a video of unboxing just in case I open it and it's faulty or a piece of junk.

That said, as much doubt that the seller has created, I think he doesn't have a choice but to deal..through eBay and work via PayPal. I understand the cash will be withheld in PayPal for 21 days etc. So hopefully when I receive it, it should be as described.

Thanks everyone for their input.

Only 4k for a bona fide vintage sm300 is a great deal. The market price on those lately has been north of 7k. Hope all works out for the best and you got yourself a great deal.

Make sure you are wearing this hat while you are waiting for delivery.

While we wait to see this blow up, I would like to know how the seller was able to make that error message pop up when the buyer tried to pay the first time?

Hopefully, he didn't have the buyer click on his own 'PayPal' login link, in which case his acct into could now be compromised..

No doubt the price is a huge red flag.

That's what I kept telling him, but he didn't listen apparently...

That is not how it happened. The 'message' was to the Seller, not the buyer. The Seller made that fake message and then sent it to the Buyer, along with a request that the transaction be performed outside of eBay. I suspect if the Buyer agreed, the next step would have been the Seller requesting payment via F&F instead of for Goods & Services.

Bad scam, and I sure hope the OP does not go through with it, even if within eBay. Why the heck would the Seller list the watch for half the going rate if he was not trying to scam people?

If I understood @sdre correctly, that message was displayed to him while trying to pay.
This can happen to several reasons: Paypal reserves the right to restrict an account and limit the amount of transactions. This may happen if you pay much transactions with a big amount during a short time. Then, the owner of the account has to contact paypal and make them lift the limit.
The reason wahy they do this is money laundering or restrictions of countries concerning payments.
So far, nothing shady.
My guess is when @sdre contacted ebay, they have seen the limit and made paypal accept the payment so that he could pay in his second try.

It was an auction with 45 bids, so we can't really use the price against the seller - unless other bidders saw the risk and kept their bids low / stayed away.

Seller is from South Jersey.

I would have sent the cash to @ulackfocus and let him and his (pick one)
A) aluminum baseball bat
B) wood baseball bat
C) Gary Dornhoefer authographed Philadelphia Flyers hockey stick
D) Rocky Balboa 15 Oz glove (with lead weight inside)

Arrange a face to face with the seller.

Hey guys. Sorry for the lack of replies. Just woke up.

Reason why I went ahead with the sale was that

1) the transaction went through eBay itself

2) also went through with PayPal

I understand if I received anything less than what it is on eBay, I will take pictures/video of unboxing and use it as proof of a fraudulent sale. In both ways I'm protected ( correct me if I'm wrong)

What are the other possible issues that could arise in this method of transaction?

I would use an unedited video to show the unpacking.

But why would you open yourself up to being scammed in the first place? If you had the choice of:

A) NOT being scammed
B) Being scammed and (possibly) getting your money back

...why not choose A? I suppose you鈥檙e banking on there being an option C, which is that you get the watch for the ludicrously low price being asked, but I think that鈥檚 unlikely.

Unnecessary.
PayPal go with the buyer 99.9% of the time, and there is no way of submitting "Video evidence" to them nor is it necessary.
