Doing a Mitsukoshi Mod...

The prices directly from Omega have gone up - there is generally a slight increase most years (maybe 2-3% or so from my experience) and of course prices fluctuate with exchange rates if there is a big shift in either the Swiss Franc or your local currency. However most of the increases you are seeing in the open market are due to those third party resellers jacking up the prices of the parts they have left, and do not originate with Omega.

I won't formally call it profiteering, but you get the idea...

I'm not sure where you get your small percentage price increases from? I've had many items more than double the last couple of years.

For example I used to buy the vintage steel mesh bracelets at a good price then omega put up the price over 100% over night, they virtually did the same on pin buckles.
On top of this I've had a devaluation in the UK POUND against the SWISS FRANC of around 30% so this is again a large price increase.

Perhaps you should read what I posted again, specifically this:

"and of course prices fluctuate with exchange rates if there is a big shift in either the Swiss Franc or your local currency."

Have you followed what the Swiss Franc has done in the time frame you refer to? The Swiss Franc jumped significantly in 2015 when it abandoned the cap and decoupled from the Euro...

And my first line in the reply to you was acknowledging that prices have gone up, but "typically" in my experience the regular increases are small.

Are you based in Euroland or UK?

The CHF used to be around $2.5- £1 and then hovered around $1.5- £1 until BREXIT decision makes it now around $1.22- £1.
So it's only got more expensive for me over the last 10 years by around 100% on the currency exchange.

That's exactly my point mate...adjustments for massive currency fluctuations are not "regular" price increases. The regular price increases are small as I've said, but when governments (or their people) make decision that affect relative currency values, prices can change to reflect that.

Once again this is all outside the extreme price gouging being done by the 3rd party resellers - that is driven by simple greed, not economics.

Finally got the panda conversion done as part of the overhaul for my 3570.50. Decided to go with the all silver hands look, which is "orthodox" because I like this look and am not too concerned with legibility.

I might miss the "Silver Speedy" configuration, but I have the rhodium dial and anthracite hands stashed away for later use, perhaps in the next overhaul. But I am really digging the panda look right now.

Far nicer IMO, looks lovely. The silver dial is too plain for my taste.

Both versions are gorgeous! They really stand out against the standard speedy!

Hi All,

I'm finally looking to get the parts to get this done but I can't really find any anywhere... Ofrei doesn't seem to have them in stock unless I'm being daft and there's only one person selling the dial on ebay from NZ at quite an inflated price!

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Steve

Not sure it's an inflated price. They sell for about £420 these days.

I bought the dial and hands from them. They are a good company to deal with so would highly recommend

Ah thanks @Maganator. For some reason I had it in my head that it was cheaper than that.

Are these the correct hands? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Original-...044138?hash=item51f84b6eea:g:zQkAAOSwMtxXq9cR
No, those hands are white and you need silver ones for the mod. Though some people prefer white hands for the chrono dials as they are slightly more legible, though not what was used in the original.

I cant see any for sale from them but if you send them a msg through ebay they will source them for you, I am sure. I got mine from them that way.

As far as the hands go, there is variation especially for the subdials. If you Google photos of the Mitsukoshi you will see some people use the white and some the silver. It's as much a matter of choice as anything. The white does give a little more visibility and contrast. Communicate with the seller, he's a good guy and usually has both sets of hands. He can advise on the options. It's a fun project with a great outcome. You'll be happy with the result.

Thanks guys. I've contacted him. Think I would prefer the silver.

Cheers,

I went silver and white subdials. I also got an extra chrono hand just incase. (Watch makers always tell me the chrono is the one that always has issues)

They are not inflated prices, it is ALL SWATCH GROUP who own Omega with the crazy prices..
On 1st May this year they put up dial and hand prices on average OVER 80%.

It's a case of you want it from Swatch Group you have to pay an extortionate price or not have it.

I am a stockist of Omega dials etc and carry the largest stock worldwide, I find these dials impossible to buy now and sell at a profit from Swatch Group. It's them that make the money not me or the NZ Seller.
