I was referring to the 2018 reissue, just in case I wasn't clear, sorry!

I would go this for modern

@styggpyggeno1 has the vintage....IIRC when he bought the one he got the guy also said he had to buy the quartz version. Two nice watches

Have these shots from when they first came out. Black looks just as good. Was close to buying one.

I actually ended up getting another watch instead.
A TCM orienteering ( titanium with solar compass ) still 200m waterproof

Oddly enough - the Alpina reminds me of some sort of dive/tool watch mixed with a UG Polerouter. The TCM is also nice - very fun tool watch look. I like the caseback.

I prefer dive style watches for a number of reasons. While I don't dive, I like the perceived ruggedness of the watch and that I can swim and vacation in them without real worry.

I bought an Omega Seamaster Pro 2531.80 like the one from Tomorrow Never Dies last summer, and I still find myself wearing it frequently in pretty much any occasion, be it with a suit or hiking and swimming with the kids.

I really enjoy my Seiko SPB077 if you're interested in something with a solid movement and unique case design or wear experience. I probably wear it more often than my SMP300 lately. It wears far smaller than it's measurements indicate, and comes with a smart, unique design for the price. The case is nicely polished, and the hardened coating hasn't scratched once yet for me. I was also able to find this for roughly 50% of the retail price, and I've see this watch available on a number of grey market sites and ebay.

Thanks for the advise, like the look of your seamaster better than your Seiko.

Squale is another you should look into
I was just checking those, didn’t find the design to suit my taste.

Also came across Christopher Ward and they seem as quite well built for the price.

Might want to look into the quality issues and repair problems they have been experiencing recently.

This is the problem with online only stores. Their prices seem to be too good for what they offer.

I will read up on their feedback, thanks for the heads up.

For a $1000 you will be hard pressed to find a better watch than this.

Which model is this? Don't you have a Sharkmaster? Would you prefer the seiko?

Thanks,
Alex

The watch is the Seiko SBDC065 Automatic Prospex Dive Watch, I do currently have the blue Sharkmaster, but I will be moving it on just as soon as ebay give me their next £1 selling fee offer.

You can look into the Baltic Aquascaphe. No saphire caseback (you won't find much on divers anyway, especially with this price range) and the bezel is saphire not ceramic.

There is a Seiko which could work too, the SPB053 (or 051 if you prefer black). Bezel is not ceramic but aluminum with tungsten coating I believe.

You can also check Christopher Wards, Steinhart (quality is unbeatable for the price, but they are Rolex design rip off).

If you can go up to 2000$ you can also go for a Seamaster pro 300 used, the regular blue one or the sword hands version (called Peter Blake).
If you can add a few more bucks you could have the "old" ceramic Seamaster pro.

+1 on the Certina ph200m reissue - it’s got great presence and can be had for £450 - wear it in the sea / pool almost every day and it’s never let me down.

That was an informative post.
Why would you call the Christopher awards and Steinhart design rip offs, I means for mortals like me that’s the closed we can get to a Hulk.
It’s a different thing if the quality doesn’ exist.

What I would
Like to know whether the quality is on par with Omega and Rolex.

The design is not really my style. Don’t dig the vintage look.
Like the more contemporary ceramic glossy bezel with a nice chunky body probably of titanium.

These watches are great value, but they don't have the same fit, finish and overall quality of Omega or Rolex.
