What year model would that be?
Planet Ocean 2500 42mm. Available in 3 flavors, black bezel white numbers, black, orange numbers, and orange orange. A true classic that is starting to go up in price.

Also in the same area but a little more... Seamaster 300mc. Bobswatches.com has one for Just under 4K currently. It does have a display back.

Personally i'd go for a second hand Oris Aquis Hulk, it ticks all the boxes you have and could resell well when the time comes to transtion into Rolex if you still feel the need.

if you're looking for a cheaper scratch then a nice Hulk homage would be something like the Tisell hulk, relatively cheap with Miyoya movement, https://www.tisellwatch.com/diving-...iver-watch-sub-9015-green-without-date-40-mm/

or a Lorier Hydra but I guess they might look a little vintage for your taste? https://www.lorierwatches.com/collections/watches/products/hydra

In 15 years? It could be worth scrap metal for all we know. So, Rolex look, fit and finish, Rolex value retention in the near or even far future, but not Rolex money to spend... too many unknowns in your equation.

If you really want some value retention, buy a gold bar. Otherwise, forget it and buy a watch you can actually afford, and gives you some pleasure. We could advise you on that, not on resale value in 15 years.

Sorry to be a bit harsh but this "resale value" is beginning to get on my nerves; everybody talks about it nowadays. A watch is an expensive trinket, a self indulging expenditure not really an investment.
Not really, there’s currently a few on eBay that are asking for $2K min that are 12 years old.
At the time the price of new would have been about $4K or less.

I would like to stay away from homage as it won’t have the same refinement as the Rolex or Omega.
As for the Oris Aquis, the cost of these are fairly high in the second hand market.

@Qwertyqaz , I say this with all the respect in the world, but you are shopping with your head and not your heart. Watches are like art-it either moves you or it doesn’t. People who buy art as investment and think about investment, reasale or market strength don’t get it.

You need to go and try these watches on. You need to figure out what you like and once it clicks for you- buy that.

What about a tissot seastar or something from Sinn?
I didn’t like the Bezel on the Tissot.
Sinn- I would like to get something Swiss, not much familiar with German watches.

I own a Sinn 103 (not a diver but badass bezeled watch)- probably one of the best values in quality watches IMO. They can be picked up on the used market at about half their MSRP and hold their resale value there-if that’s a concern.

They are a total steal. This one on bracelet was around $2.1k new (a great price for what it is) I picked it up a while ago for $1.3k- with both bracelet and factory strap, box & papers-I felt like I stole it.

I would go this for modern

@styggpyggeno1 has the vintage....IIRC when he bought the one he got the guy also said he had to buy the quartz version. Two nice watches

Sorry for being late...

Here are the two together:

Since then I have sold the quartz-one but the other one will stay until very close to the end...

That is a looker, what is the case size on that? I don’t even mind buying midsize which can also save a few Bob notes

The Seiko is 44m wide, and 51 mm lug to lug. It wears smaller due to the design of the case back. I have larger wrists, ~8 in, and I'm finding perspective in wrist shots really changes how large a watch looks.

I don’t but I also don’t want to miss out if it’s a ripper deal.

It doesn't sound like a "ripper deal" to me, but what good is it if you only have a $1000 budget.
