Hmm, of course I did. I know I'm knew to this, but not that incompetent 馃榾

Just the back case alone is like 10 grams, and the case itself is decently thick. So, using your calculation: 36 x 75% x $62.57 = $1,689.

I may be off by 1 or 2 grams. The crystal may be thicker and heavier, and not really sure how heavy the tension ring is. I just extracted 3.67 grams from the 39.67 total I got, thinking that should cover it.
I think the price for 18K is around $46 and for 24K is around $62 per gram. Quite heavy gold piece and a nice watch, congrats!

LoL now I'm tempted to check the gold weight in my 18k Constellation just to benchmark.

I believe I checked case back ones and it was around 10g as yours. But I have no clue what's the dog leg case weight.

Beautiful watch. 34mm? You should definitely try and weigh it.

I'm afraid my initial weigh of my watch is incorrect by some grams. That's what happens when you use a cheap, untared scale. I've ordered a new one, which should arrive today and I'll post the new figures.

Totally love this watch - I think you scored royally. Great job ignoring all the glove comments and getting the feedback you needed! These are great watches. Oversized for the vintage, love the fine brushed bezel (wracking my brain for the right specific design term) and circular dial face. Modern and timeless at same time.

Its hip urban cousin says hi.

Thanks for chiming in and great watch you have. I wasn't aware of these references until I found the one I got. Honestly surprised how they aren't much more popular. I'm liking them so much as to now be on the lookout for a good deal on a steel one.

From the get-go it was an awesome watch and incredible price, thread after thread the ignorance and insulting near-NOS watches, I'm speechless ...

Thanks for sharing the measurements too

You can look at 198.001 too, so many models to collect

Did we get an answer to the glove question, was he a chef or a proctologist?

This dial has been ruined... Here's mine and what it should look like evene though it's the day date version.

Yours is a more common snowflake dial, his is a less common radial dial

How is it "ruined"? ...

I'm really glad this is not my watch and not my thread

I'm wrong I guess Kaplan. I found this circular brushing akward. I thought it was a sunburst dial originally. Forget about what I said.

You got a nice watch and will not be selling it for the price of the gold.

However, for what it's worth, if anyone is curious, it is not possible to sell scrap gold for the full spot price, so I have never understood the point of calculations using the spot price. If you are calculating the value of the watch in gold, you should calculate the amount that you would receive. The buyer will sell to a refiner and both businesses need to make a profit.

The place I use pays 85% of spot, and he is the best local buyer. Currently, he is paying $40.60 per gram of 18k. If you have a lot of gold and direct access to a refiner, you may get 90%.

As far as I remember there is about 30 grams of 18k gold in the case. Which means about 22,5 grams of pure gold. Pure gold sells for 57 euros a gram near me. So 1300 euros of gold more or less.

The first few posts were a bit disheartening, with the gloves and all. Then it picked up and I got some really good advice.

The 198.001 looks cool. Too many models to consider and collect.

Agree. It was mostly an excercise in defining a nominal value for the gold weight.

A few posts ago I weighed the case using a cheap scale that turned out to be a few grams over. Go figure! Now I'm using another cheap scale, borrowed from a friend, but at least it's known to be accurate. I'll edit my previous post as to not misslead future readers.

I zeroed it using a 36mm acrylic crystal and a random tensioner ring I had laying around. Those weighed 1.8 grams.

The case only is 20.6 grams. The back is 9.8 grams. Total: 30.4 grams of 18k gold. Of course, without removing the crystal it's still an approximation. It may be a couple hundred milligrams more or less.

Zeroed on a crystal and tensioner ring. I'm showing the actual weight, but I zeroed after taking the photo.

100% agree, great watch and great price! Keep and eye out for the solid gold bracelets, they鈥檙e rare but these solid gold with bracelet 168.022 examples look awesome!

And enjoy the case and concentric dial variant, I鈥檓 definitely a fan of them. 馃槈

Fantastic watches! I'm definitely going to pick one in s/s with a bracelet if I come across a good deal. Really dig the design.

As for the gold bracelet, while I'd love to have one, I believe the chances of finding one are next to zero. Leaving cost aside, I'm not even sure what kind of bracelet/endlinks combo it would be for me look out for. If you have any idea, please let me know.

If you want a bracelet that looks like the on on my watch, right side of photo, you鈥檙e gonna want look for a Solid Gold 1098 bracelet with 540 end links. I think I have a couple of the other options that came in solid gold saved somewhere on my computer. I鈥檒l dig em up and post them in a bit.

Edit: here鈥檚 a fellow member鈥檚 solid gold 1098 on the watch with 540 end links.
