... but for some reason the Trilogy model tugs at my heart a little more.

What do you all think??

I feel the same. I'd go for the Trilogy anytime. 馃憤 I find the engraved lunar landing image on the 50th as silly as silly can be. 馃檨

Yes, but within the silly category there's "silly" and "substantially sillier".....

But I agree, the engraving in the sub-dial is too much. In my eyes that was OK when it was the "only" conmemorative detail in the dial: think Speedmaster Missions and such.

Besides I think they ss/gold theme was better resolved on this one:

But I like the twist on the movement of the 50th. IMO that movement should have been on the Trilogy Speedy for consistency: the Trilogy SM300 and Railmaster are cosmetically faithful renditions of their 57 counterparts but with the latest innovations in movements... The Trilogy Speedy still has the same old 1861....

All that said, from the two options proposed by the OP I vote Trilogy Speedy, more interesting an a lot classier.

Seeing pictures of any Speedy just makes my day a little better with each look!

I think the full gold piece was positioned as the classy understated tribute and with the SS they have tried to be a bit more creative using the seconds at 9 to illustrate the event as they have traditionally with previous LE's. Clearly the use of the Buzz ladder descent pic has polarised opinion and maybe that should have gone on the back instead of the footprint allowing a clean grey black panda silhouette dial to carry the watch.

I really prefer the Trilogy over the Apollo XI 50th. I found the Gold a little too much and Aldrin鈥檚 back side coming down the ladder, whilst an iconic picture, destroys the legibility of the sub dial.

Agreed. I think if it had been the clean grey / black panda you describe I may well have kept mine.

I agree that the boot print would have made for a better subdial motif, but in the flesh the watch looks really good. Remember that in photos the subdial looks enlarged

If the Speedy Trilogy is so great why is it trading below retail?

I watch them on Ebay and they stick for months at 5k

I wouldn't worry so much about the resale value than what feels right and looks right on the wrist. If I had to choose, it would be the Apollo 11. Besides the obvious appearance, like others have said, the bracelet is really what comes to mind when comparing the two. How does it sit on the wrist? There isn't a wrong answer...let's see what OP decides!

5k was pretty much the retail price in the UK. Besides, watches fall in the realm of personal taste. Markets are the realm of supply and demand. Clearly, money can't buy good taste 馃槣.

They trade for around $5k US, which is considerably less than 拢5k was when this watch was new.

Because of people who are in it for 'monetary value gain' instead of in it for 'the personal love of the watch gain'. Most folks who are in it for the right reasons don't care if a watch drops value to 1k...they will love the watch all the same, regardless. Once these watches find good homes, they will no longer be easily accessible (that will take twice as long, or more, with the Apollo 50th, as there are twice as many, and its a polarizing love-hate watch!). Personally, I cant (and wont if I could!) fork out 6 figures to buy a 2915, but was glad to be able to fork out 4 for a brand new 2915 from 2017. In any case, the 60th is a way more significant watch than the Apollo 50th (chicken-egg principle)...if that matters at all...I don't think so and it doesn't to me ... my point : buy what you like/love.

This doesn't appear to be correct. A quick search shows last sold on eBay US of $5750, and all currently for sale above $6k. I don't doubt that there may have been a sale at $5k though. I have seen the watch for sale as low as 拢4500 in the UK some months ago.

Anyway, we are using different initial prices and getting away from the point. Supply and demand is what it is and it can change quickly.

Prices could drop to zero and I still wouldn't buy the 50th (okay, maybe I would at that point just to flip it onto the next guy!).
