This is a collectors forum. Dealers are welcome, and even hobby dealers are welcome. In fact everyone who is kind open and honest is welcome as far as I am concerned.
I don’t have much sympathy for people who get upset just because a thread is started pointing to a watch on the largest auction house in the world - there is no such thing as under the radar on eBay.
I have enjoyed many threads here pointing to current auctions, some I have bought and some I watch sell too high or too low, or bang on. Does a thread influence the price? Maybe, but so what? Are we in this for the profit, to only buy on the cheap? If the market sets a price, then that’s the price. If You get out bid on a special watch, then you just don’t have the balls - or you have an eye on profit - which is fine, just don’t whinge here about that here. Because profit is for dealers and since when is it the job of OF members to protect a dealers profit?
Want to buy a watch on the cheap? Sitting at a screen viewing eBay and hoping no one else spots it is not the way. You need to work a bit harder than that. Want to buy a watch no one has seen? Look where no one else looks.
I love these active auction threads because I can follow them and see the sale as it develops.
as far as a code of conduct, (which I don’t like as once something is written down a lawyer will have a go at it), how about do no evil and treat others as you would like to be treated. The fact I even have to write that shows the forum membership has grown so large, that the minuscule percentage of humans who are irredeemable wankers have made an appearance....and you can’t legislate against those.
edit: I’m not calling anyone here an irredeemable wanker. I’m thinking of a few banned members
