I would take $9950 for this, just because it has patina...

Just kidding... 😁

Maybe if it came with the Authenticity Guarantee the winning bidder would have followed through. 😁

Appears to be a very cheap way to get an appraisal.

The re-listing disappeared pretty fast... I assume it was a private sale off ebay to save on additional taxes

Will probably see it on Dinky’s page in the coming weeks- “expertly curated” and selling for $30k...comes with a free travel clock.

If the high bidder disappears, don't they tell the second bidder he bought it?

Seller can send 2nd chance offer but does not have to.

I hate 2nd chance offers and always refuse them.

"Hey there guy ummm my shilling failed su uhhh if you'd like like take 4% under my extremely inflated price I'd be so kind to offer you a 2nd chance. "

I refuse them with extreme prejudice :whipped:

Agreed, especially dislike fact that non-paying/schill bidder drove up my “Second Chance” offer/bid!!!

A second chance offer might be acceptable if it were offered at the price the auction would have ended at ignoring all of the bids of the winning bidder, i.e. one increment above the top bid of the third highest bidder.

Price is nuts, IMHO, but like @Bill Sohne says, go find another.

I think this is a variable many of us keyboard warriors forget- price is based on market demand. We can say a plain Jane flawless SS SMDV is only worth $400 because that’s what you bought yours for 10 years ago, but good luck finding one today for that price. When newbies post $$$ watches where we say “overpriced”, just think about- how much would it take to pry yours from your hands.

I do, and the answer is typically: significantly less. Which, of course, is why I (and many others) consider them to be overpriced.

I'm thinking not of notable discounts, but rather realistic pricing. Not so long ago I started a thread about a dive watch that had been listed for sale at an absurd asking price. The thread was deleted by the Mods, and the watch is currently still for sale somewhere around 40% the original ask.

That's not to say that what I would consider to be unrealistic prices are never realized, but when something sells for what appears to be an exceptionally high price, it does not necessarily mean that it somehow reflects the "wisdom" of the market. It could just as easily be a matter of two aroused bidders with lots of disposable income battling it out at auction, with their egos being the primary catalyst.

I agree with you @Tony C. When you get into the stratosphere like the OP watch all bets are off- it’s not longer rational. In my SMDV example (which happens to be among the most desired by the new to Omega crowd next to the Speedmaster), there are so many out there that we can make a fair assessment on value- but as we have seen, truly exceptional examples aren’t as common as many think- they do garner a premium that steps well above what many of us think is fair market value. That said, no way one of those is worth $1.6k, but a 20-30% premium- absolutely.

The forum often makes me laugh and sometimes wince at the same time. I’m always surprised how A thread can so quickly go off the rails.

My only objection to posting active auctions is the increased exposure. I search to find a nice item, two folks bidding, good price.... Once posted on the forum how many others might now be interested that might not have done any homework to locate the item before the post.

That said, I’m appreciating the information on shill bidding. Thank you.
