I've been looking for a nice 168.005 for some time. This one looks very nice despite the few nicks and fleabites here and there. It doesn't appear to have been heavily polished.

It has been recently serviced and seemsto be running well with good amplitude.

I am awaiting photos of the case back and movement.

I realize the bracelet is not original to the watch and I may replace it if I purchase.

Any red flags?

TIA.

Chris

The dial looks correct but has serious lacquer bubbling, from moisture intrusion

I think the lugs have been quite heavily polished as they are really quite soft with little definition left of the facets (the main feature of a dogleg) and have had a very hard life with all of the scratches and dings shown.

It all depends on your tolerance for a 'well-loved' watch - and the cost of course.

I'm sure it would look fine on the wrist but I wouldn't pay a premium for it.

Thank you for the honest appraisal. In years past I was always quite impulsive about purchases and it didn't serve me well on several occasions. I find the folks here to be the elder statesmen of Omega collecting and a sound voice of reason.

I think I'm just going to wait until a nice example comes up here.

Thanks again,

Chris

The blistering on the dial is probably not as distracting to the naked eye as it is in the photos, but it is probably going to be noticeable. I don't think it's necessarily a dealbreaker, but something to think about. It's probably the kind of thing that will catch your eye from certain angles, and a matter of personal taste.

From the new pics, it still all looks correct.
It has a very old gasket and some corrosion around the caseback lip.
The caseback has some heavy 'idiot' marks from cack-handed opening.

Out of interest what was the asking price?

He's asking 2600 delivered, but I was planning on offering a good bit less. But I think I'm going to wait as I said.

Thanks again.

Was doing some looking online and found this much sharper example with minor dial aging that recently sold for several hundred less than the asking price for the other.

I think I'm just going to take my time and wait till I hit 200 posts here and put up a want to buy ad.

That is a huge amount of money for a, quite frankly, sub-standard piece.

From that one photo, this looks to be a significantly better watch than the one you first posted here.
Just look at how much the facets are showing on the lugs on this one.
Yes the first had onyx inserts, which are desirable, but the dial on this one looks cleaner than the first.

It's a good idea to wait but there is no reason that you can't post something that you find, for comment.

Yes, I was poking around to see what nice not over-polished examples looked like and found this one that evidently sold for 2300.

My favorite examples are the ones that have the gold furniture and hands in the all steel cases. There's something about the contrast that really appeals to me.

Yea that's not a bad watch but it's not anywhere near a $2,600 watch based on recent performance at auction

Yes, I am passing on it. Was also a little surprised that it had the old style yellow gasket when it has recently been serviced.

I noticed that too. It that tells you one of two things:

a) He's a bullshitter and it hasn't been serviced at all but has a readable trace on his $50 Chinese timing machine
b) Its been serviced really badly ie dunked in Horolene then put back in the case with a reassuring squirt of WD40

No one who does a decent job leaves a filthy, degraded gasket like that in place. Particularly as it is covered in dirt (best case) or rust (worst case)

Either way price it as unserviced.

I'm also wondering how he thinks it's not been polished.

I'll keep holding out and wait for a nicer one to come along.
