Guys, why not make a sticky thread with "advices and practices"...
I'd like to see an overarching "code of conduct" that helps to keep OF in the lead as the best forum. It should be stickied with a big red "start here" notice, then - Dan's point - anyone who doesn't read it has only one person to look at. It cuts all ways. The last few days, I've seen a couple of newbies getting some quite harshly expressed corrections; I've also seen respected senior members' goodwill exploited to the point of near-trolling by newbs who imho were all take, no give. I felt uncomfortable with all of that. I'm humble enough to know I'd have benefitted from a day one study of the house rules, and I know other juniors feeling the same. OK, just my 2c - peace out!
I think it would be very easy to miss the eBay listing, as members here didn't see it, it gets lost to the other hundreds of auctions posted daily (international buyers probably did not see this one at all).
Not a stretch to say that Hodinkee skims OF from time to time, and if someone happens to post a live auction that gets a fair amount of replies then...
It's ebay... With the description "omega chronometre"... I think at least 2000 members here have that description in their ebay saved searches... It's not like finding a Rembrandt in a barn.
I remember the guilloche connie from Mexico Alex which @gatorcpa recommended recently during a ongoing auction... Again, we do this all the time. You win some and...
A lot can be resolved through DM, and should be more often in my opinion.
Would’ve saved us all from this silly thread.
Many members of OF frown upon pointing to an ongoing auction with a link for obvious reasons.
You can always show photos here and ask questions about the condition, if the dial was restored or not...
And I think you have got a lot of information in the item description like the reference 2366 and good large photos - so it would not be great investigation work to find out about the watch model and prices paid for in auctions if you were not too lazy. Why should others do all the research for you? We appreciate if members do their homework first , present what they have found out and then come up with specific questions.
And when the auction is over then you can ask why the price was so high, this would be the right time to ask...
