I often saw links to active bidding here on OF. Also for watches I was targeting. And also posted by longtime and respected members. I was'nt happy with it. But it's all in the game.

Edit 1: And if you really want it, just make sure you're the highest bidder... 馃榿

Edit 2: Although I think I've never posted a link to a ongoing auction. If I had a question about a certain watch I would use PM first.

We buy and sell all the time, sometimes we bid sometimes we sell.
Posting a link to a live auction hurts the buyers but helps the sellers.
Why do we only help buyers, not sellers?

Good point Hoi. I have no aversion to helping sellers, but i dont think any of us condone publicising our own auctions (not that this happened here)

Funny I have been watching this guy from day 1. I don't know very much about these 2366 so I spent a few days researching. I pmed a member about it as posting it on the forum is a no go...

The case refinish is really heavy in my opinion; caseback and underside of lugs look messy and lugs look to have been reprofiled. But its a rare bird with a fairly clean dial. 馃槙

But they didn麓t even get the reference right...

Yeah, noticed that too... In terms of coverage (or rather, blowing the cover on this auction) it makes little difference, I suppose.

Zapatta, you should ask the seller for a 10% commission for outing it here. Hodinkee found it here and published it. This forum is widely read . I don't have a problem with it, because it gives a boost to Covid depressed prices. Good for sellers. As a buyer you will not make many friends with these direct links. Will happen to you at one point as well and then you will know, why a few are not happy. Kind regards. Achim

Guys, why not make a sticky thread with "advices and practices" for situations like this, which could help us new ones to avoid them. Shabbaz says old members do the same thing, so one shouldn鈥檛 be surprised if someone new does it. It is obvious that there are threads with direct links to auctions, but this turns out to be very rare watch, so everyone went crazy. I apologize to you all once again (some indicated that I dont have to worry, but I do) because that was not my intention. Hope you understand.

Unless you have proof of this, laying that at the feet of Zapatta is a bit on the extreme, and poor form IMO.

People will get over it, just try to use discretion in the future. There might be some legitimate reasons to make a post about an ongoing auction (to voice concerns, ask questions, provide a detailed analysis), but if it's just to find out who's bidding, then that can wait until the auction is over.

Regarding the sticky idea, unfortunately newbies don't read them. Moreover, I don't think that the mods/administrators have voiced an opinion on this issue, and they are the ones who would have to approve a sticky.

The only thing remotely close to be called evidence is that in the same article they post a watch being sold right now on the private sales section of the forum.

Maybe they did find it on here, maybe they didn't, either way no blame should be put on OP for something he doesn't have control over.

It seems like Hodinkee just had a look at OF recently as they also posted this Favre Leuba which coincidentally was also bumped today.

Sales threads here are picked up by aggregator sites (that I'm sure the guys who write the articles a Hodonkey follow), but threads on the forums are not.

To conclude that they saw this thread because they have that advert listed, is a stretch...

There are lot of grapes in this thread, and they are very sour...

It is definitely tough to be a newbie in OF.

I think it would be very easy to miss the eBay listing, as members here didn't see it, it gets lost to the other hundreds of auctions posted daily (international buyers probably did not see this one at all).
Not a stretch to say that Hodinkee skims OF from time to time, and if someone happens to post a live auction that gets a fair amount of replies then...
