Mine is solid 18k case

Thank you for answering. I'm trying to figure out how common was for vintage watches with solid gold cases to come with plated buckles. Is it because solid gold is soft?

Mine is solid 18k cáe but what does it has to do with the buckle’s originality?

I was under the impression that solid gold watches required solid gold buckles. But I was wrong.

This buckle came on a watch I purchased recently. After a look through this thread, I didn't see anything about the "Staybrite" marking (although it's possible I missed something in the 500+ posts) I did see a "taybrite" buckle and this thread about a buckle that looks pretty much just like mine: https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-buckle-from-50s.100011/#post-1306271 which has the same E.K. and Staybrite markings.

Let me know if you see any issues here. Hoping to clean it up and put it on one of my straps!

Looks good to me. Omega is also including these buckles with straps included in the 57 versions, which can also be obtained separately.

Hi guys,

I think I already know the answer, but I just want to be sure as I'm not an expert.
Could you please tell me if this omega buckle is genuine or fake (got it from a trusted UK watch dealer) ?
I would really appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance,
Ludo

Total fake. The flat, mushy symbol is also a clue.

Omega is selling new buckles of this type, by the way. Buy direct!

You can get at least the part numbers from this site:

https://www.swisswatchspares.com

You can buy from him too if you want. But the easiest way is to have your jeweler call Omega directly, they will sell straps, bracelets, and buckles to "anyone". Even you, personally, but they prefer you don't ask and have your jeweler do it.

I see that he doesn't have the 16mm buckle... STZ006410.

It is important to note that a particular watch, perhaps before 1955ish, may not have a logo buckle. US collection watches with 11/16" lugs may never have, though there's no way to know for sure. Early ads that show buckles show sort of an arch-shaped top, and may be stamped "OMEGA" on the back.

Here is an example, though hard to see:

Here is an example of a watch with a logo buckle:

The first example is US, the second UK. Roughly the same time period.

So, look at vintage ads online for guidance. You'll note no one makes straps in these styles anymore, sadly. Buy a logo buckle if it makes you happy, and there is some good guidance here on finding good ones, but don't feel you have to.

Thanks for your response Tom ! Very interesting ! Yes they don't have the 16 mm buckle, but I will find one (I know Cousins in the UK sells recent Omega buckles that are legit).
Yes for sure, a logo buckle is not an obligation, but I just don't want to stay with this fake one !

Can I ask you if you think these are genuine as you seem to know your subject (for me, they are... I read several time the beginning of this thread and the good work of @omegastar) ?

Thanks again

The laser engraved markings give it away as a fake. Finding genuine vintage buckles is a waiting game. Good ones pop up on eBay once a month from what I've seen (if the seller has 100 of them available, its most likely fake) so check daily!

I thought it was maybe about time I gave my thanks to @omegastar

I have been using this post as a reference for the last 3 years and the knowledge here transfers over to JLC and other brands as well.

My small collection (and I currently do not own an Omega 🤔):

Great thread! What a wonderful read from top to bottom.

I recently bought a SM600 concentric dial (ST 135.011, Cal. 601, 1965). No original strap, buckle nor box, though.

Do you happen to know which buckle might be period correct for my watch?

My Google image research indicates the following:

* Buckle
(a) special buckle by EK a.k.a. dynamic buckle (stainless steel),
5.Special EK.

(b) some oblong buckle (stainless steel) by MG, or less likely by EK.

Have any of you owned SM600 concentric dial watch, which had had a period correct buckle? Are the buckles similar to other Seamaster's of mid-60's?

@omegastar , what are your thoughts on this?

I would go for this one. That’s the type I got on my SM600.
