Oh wow! This is such great information. I did not know about Omega AJTT. Another mission for me to track a copy down that will not break my budget. Also, if these are not popular with collectors, do you have any resources I should investigate to find one to purchase aside from eBay? Also, any markings on this specific buckle (does it have a formal name?) that will help me identify an official buckle vs. a replica? This is so fascinating to me. Thank you. Thank you.
Dave

You can see the markings in chapter « 5.Special EK » near the end of the thread.

Got it.
1. Do you know if they came in stainless steel/silver color?
2. Also, what should I pay for an original (ball park?)
3. Finally, When you refer to the use of this Special EK buckle not have a band with a loop, couldn't I simply remove a keeper or free loop if I wanted to use one on a generic leather band?

Thanks for continuing to educate me.
Best,
Dave

Dear @omegastar, thank you for this amazing piece of research. My apologies if I should have found the answers already within this rather long thread, but please may I ask anyway?
I have a "Special EK", as a consolatory leftover from a watch trade I'd rather forget (maybe I got the better end of the bargain after all?).
1. I wondered what "PAT.BVT." meant? I am not a French speaker, but I am guessing that "PAT." refers to patents. No idea about BVT. though. Do you know, please?
2. Would it be "appropriate" to put this buckle, once I have a reasonable strap, on a watch built in the 1940s?
Thanks for your help!

BVT. - French abbreviation for patent (brevet).

This style buckle is from the mid/late 1960s into the 70s.

Anyway to know if these two buckles that I purchased recently are original MG? Are there 'fake' MG buckles on the market. I question their authenticity because they are so shiny and do not appear to have been used. Would love it if they are original products for my 1962 Omega Seamaster De Ville.

Thanks,
Dave

3.Older style MG.

Note how the older style Omega symbol is much thicker

4.Old style MG.

Evolution of MG. buckles

Older style AW.

Old style AW.

5.Special EK.

8.Later B.

9.Even later B

Well, I think that's all folks.
I hope it will be usefull to someone.

Generally, if you have to ask you already know they are fakes, somewhere in your deeper self.
They are missing the space between Acier and Inox which are two words meaning Stainless Steel.

Urgh. Really? It's so hard to source official buckles for a newbie like me. Any suggestions aside from scouring ebay for the real thing?

Thanks for the response. What about them look fake? I'm trying to educate myself so that I can spot official ones in the future. I'm trying to outfit my father's Seamaster De Ville, 1962 with a period buckle. Many thanks for any insights you can provide.

Go to the first page of this thread where the MG buckles are discussed, the differences should be pretty clear.

Another one to add to this thread. 40s/50s I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong.

This is on that I recently purchased. Still on an Omega strap too. Paid a little more than I usually would for my standards! 😝😎

Photos are not my own as I haven't had the time to take a look at it yet. Apologies for the horrible shots!

All the best,
Chris

What is embarrassing about that? 😀 That is an honest question.
To the best of my knowledge, those buckle types came with Seamaster De Villes. But as it apply in general for vintage buckles, there are lots of exceptions to the rule.
I dont think there are any advantages or disadvantages of the specific buckle design. It was merely a design choice, perhaps to distinguish it from the more classic buckles.

I think it was called a “dynamic buckle”.

@omegastar see below. This ticks all the boxes if I read your thorough review. However, the order is just the other way around. Is this now considered genuine? thanks!!!!!

Found a strap with buckle for sale. The buckle attached to the supposed Omega strap looks a little different compared to what i have seen before. I cant really tell what the inner engravings on the left says. Is it a fake?

I have a buckle that looks like that with different markings. I think it’s legitimate.

I wonder... which kind of machine churned out millions of these things 😕
