What if I take it to a jeweler to replate it?
The buckle itself is original, right?
Don’t waste time and money to replate buckles. You will find one. Remember also to look for 14mm buckles. 18/14 straps are not difficult to find.

18/16 is the common size strap nowadays. therefore a 16mm buckle is the one to buy imo.
14mm straps at the end buckle are quite hard to find if the lug size is 18mm.

I emailed the seller of that buckle and he/she says that is just patina. I have seen this kind of aging before but I guess you cannot know for sure until you inspect the buckle in your hand.

Replating is no big deal because I have a jeweler that can do it for very little money.
I shall think about it....price is right and it might be better than it looks in the photo.

Well, they start at 59 pounds when you find them....

PS: I know cousins, I bought many things from them. Probably one of the few dealers to provide various sizes such as 20/14 or 18/14.
Choices are far more at 18/16

If you are stuck of 18/16 you might think about a modern buckle until you find a nice vintage example.

I think it ll be difficult to find one like that....I ll have to settle for another one meanwhile.
What do you gents think about this one?:
The “Sun” logo buckle frequently comes for sale on eBay. I would keep an eye for a month or two.

I haven't gone back through all the post, but quite a few pages back.
It seems like most of the discussion is about vintage buckles.
But is there a reliable source for modern buckles besides straight from Omega. I was told at a boutique last weekend the buckle I was looking at was $50. Any place I could get better prices and the ability to order online?

I got this 60s/70s buckle pretty cheap a few months ago on ebay.
It's got a bit of wear that shows up much more in the pics, but the 1970 Geneve cal.565 head isn't perfect either so it looks fine!

I just wanted to add, If it hadn't been for the excellent information compiled in this thread, I would probably have bought a fake!!!

Anyone have thoughts on what buckle would be appropriate for my late father's 1962 Seamaster De Ville? I like the two circled in the image below but want to stay close to the time period of the watch. I do not know the date ranges for the 'evolution of the buckles' in an earlier post. The spring bars on this De Ville are 18 mm. Do I get the equivalent size for a buckle?
Serial Number inside watch on movement: 19612492
Reference Number: 14765-2 SC

The buckle would be 16mm tapered down from your 18mm lugs. I am not certain the buckles you circled are correct for your Deville, but both are 16mm. My understanding is the second buckle from the left appeared on Speedmasters, so maybe the more rounded buckle would be more appropriate?

18k or 750 gold buckles

As far as I know they exist in 14 mm and 16 mm.

As you can see, when it is an 18k gold buckle it is always fully signed with Swiss, 750 and the manufacturer’s mark. So in that case it is easy to disqualify fakes.

Most are made by AW. And those should have an 18k gold spring bar.

The one made by GM. Has a gold-plated spring bar, but the buckle is heavier in gold

Evolution in time or chronology

This is a proposition I make out of observation. I have no proof and I am open to suggestions. I think it will be very difficult to date those buckle, but maybe if we make a survey we will come to something.

1.Early EK.

2.Later oblong EK.

This is an amazing resource for Omega Buckles. I have just become overly interested in finding the 'right' one for my late father's Seamaster De Ville. Would you be kind enough to read my post and let me know your thoughts? I'd be grateful for any insights you have in helping me identify a buckle that may be approximately the similar age to my 1962 De Ville.

Ah, thanks. The rounded buckle you note, is that the one on the far left that I circled?

I think the one on the far right is a lot more likely.

But based on this catalog picture, perhaps none of these?

Wow! What a great site. I just search as see almost the exact same watch in the 1964 catalog. Too bad there is not a better image of the buckle on the leather strap. I'll keep digging but thank you for the post Tom!!

Thanks for the note but I'm looking to bring my late father's Omega Seamaster De Ville back to its original glory. I know it can be expensive but it is a special watch and I want it to be authentic. Anyone with suggestions on where to get legitimate Omega buckles besides eBay, I'd be grateful for the reference.

Hi Dave, I looked in Omega AJTT and there are several ads that all display the same buckle. That buckle was an Omega exclusive model that avoided the use of a loop.
It is not very popular among collectors because it needs a special leather strap without a loop.

Oh wow! This is such great information. I did not know about Omega AJTT. Another mission for me to track a copy down that will not break my budget. Also, if these are not popular with collectors, do you have any resources I should investigate to find one to purchase aside from eBay? Also, any markings on this specific buckle (does it have a formal name?) that will help me identify an official buckle vs. a replica? This is so fascinating to me. Thank you. Thank you.
