Wow, I've stayed away from eBay to avoid temptation over the past few weeks but that looks to be a really, really nice one. Anyone have a link or additional pictures they can post? Someone may have gotten a steal.

Here you are. The watch got paper and warranty card but serie number is not from a 2998 I suppose

The paper is incorrect as it says it's for a chonometre watch. So can't be for a Speedy.

1722xxxx is a number that I have not seen so far in a 2998.

I didn’t feel safe on this watch - can’t see the lume cant check the hands for transverse curve and generally smelly.

However someone may have a total bargain !

Fingers crossed

It's possible that the Chronometre Cert has been added to this watch by mistake at the time of sale, or at any other time. (I've seen this happen quite a few times, even with modern pieces).
Regardless of the paperwork (manual is original), the watch appears to be in very nice shape and pretty consistent with what I like to see in an untouched "Drawer find" watch. Schmutz and all.
The seller is also 3 miles away from me. I'll update once I have it in hand. 😉
*I paid already, so all you "After sale" sharks... Hands off! :whipped:😁

When did paying ever stop greedy sellers from taking backsies 🤦

Just had a quick phone conversation with the seller's wife. Her husband's father was the original owner.
They will be coming over to my house later on tonight to deliver the watch.
I will get everything on video and update once in hand.

Good for you to take a risk on it. I didn't have enough confidence in my knowledge of this reference.

I’m not in the market for this one but a good risk at the final price. Looks like an honest example of a later 2998.

Crown is wrong. But otherwise looks like a nice 2998.

I fully agree with @Spacefruit that the movement serial # is uncommon.

@ndgal I would order an EOA.

That is sweet, congrats. Is this a true 'sock drawer' find or was the original owner a careful daily wearer?

You can check out the LIVE video I posted to Instagram. I got the entire thing on video. (@chrono_holic)
The owner's son is telling me about the entire history of the watch.

I will of course post all about it in a much more detailed post later.
