Crown is wrong. But otherwise looks like a nice 2998.

I fully agree with @Spacefruit that the movement serial # is uncommon.

@ndgal I would order an EOA.

I did. 馃榿

As expected, the serial number stamped on the Chronometer Certificate that was shown in the eBay listing pictures was not the actual serial number on the CK2998's movement.
In addition, the purchase receipt that was shown in the listing also did not belong to this watch as it was dated to 1961 while the CK2998 which was sold on eBay was manufactured in late 1962. (Plus, the retail price of $79.50 shown on the receipt is too low for a Speedmaster. I believe the US retail for a Speedmaster was about $125.00 at the time).

Both of these pieces of paperwork probably belonged to one of the other watches the original owner had in his collection and mistakingly added to the CK2998 by the original owner's son (who put the watch up for sale on eBay). The watch these belonged to was most likely an Omega Constellation which can be seen in one of the pictures in the original owner's autobiography book written by him nineteen years ago.

Wow. I really love all the investigation and the history. Great watch with a touch of "Law and Order" scenario...

$1046 in today's dollar. What a steal!
