....huh...what? What day is it?
Seriously though it was the first race this season that I did not watch.
Guess I picked a good one to skip.
PER's 2 big errors are definitely not helping him.
And so far this season, statisticly, OCO has been a better performer.

He has retired 4 times compared to PER's one and only on 3 occasions has OCO finished in a lower spot than PER and on those 3 occasions it was only by one grid spot...

Didn't miss much at all. There was a lot of talk about OCO's future, so PER's crash bumper cars may help him out .

Last I heard his future seems bleak.
I know there is a lot a talk of about how much if a shame it would be to see him without a ride for next season but so far it just seems like all talk and no action.

I was wondering if the lack of posts before and after last weekend reflects a general dwindling interest in F1?

The commentators on Sky certainly seem to find it more exciting than the actual action, just my opinion, but I’m knocking on a bit now having first started going to GP’s in the 1960’s.

Regarding Ocon/Perez IMO Ocon is the better driver but Perez has the finance behind him, and it appears to have been his action which allowed the new owners to step in, so hard luck for Ocon.

At least Perez provided good entertainment value on Sunday playing bumper cars and watching him getting more and more wound up behind Sirotkin made me smile.

Isn't that because Sky are all Hammy lovers? lol

It was the most boring race with action I’ve seen...

Vettel’s losing his edge right now he is in a bad headspace. I think he’s frustrated knowing he has the best car and still can’t beat Hamilton. It’s making him question his Redbull wins.

Yeah if Hamilton has one thing over Vettel it's the mental advantage.
That and luck lol.

I see Vettel as a much better personality as the #1 representative of F1. I retain faith in him and his ability. My theory is that in the championship winning years he had the perfect match of car characteristics with his driving technique - he just had that blown aero completely nailed and the car was very good. As a result he had a long period of success with not much challenge from his competitors. So there is a chunk of his career, (and personal development), during which he would normally have been honing his resilience, patience and resistance to letting emotion intrude too much, which is 'missing,' and which he is now, at this relatively late stage, having to experience. But I believe he will come through this, and, should Hamilton now encounter some of the bad luck Vettel has had this year, #5 can still be 2018 champion. (I would agree that the team has made a few mistakes too, but fine margins are involved).

I don't agree with the Hamilton haters, I would think living the high life should be part of an F1 drivers remit, even if no one else seems to manage it anymore. He comes across as much less of the spoilt brat than Vettel, who throws his toys out of the pram regularly.

Vettel's favourite driver treatment at Red Bull annoyed me, and I loved it when Mark Webber got to rub their noses in it after the front wing stealing incident at the British GP in 2010. Vettel crashing into Hamilton on that Baku re start just reminded me what a child he can be, especially as the new breed of drivers like Verstappen and Ocon come across so well. You can see the morals/personality of a driver come out in certain circumstances. Perez, Alonso, Shumacher and Vettel have all fallen short at times when I have been watching. Where as others have shown more control, both car and emotional.

Whilst I obviously respect your freedom to have your own opinion and believe what you feel is right for you I quite simply can not in any way agree with your statement of,
"I see Vettel as a much better personality as the #1 representative of F1. I retain faith in him and his ability."

I seriously can not agree with your views on Vettel as IMHO he is nothing more than a whiny little biatch that throws all his toys out of his pram if everything doesn't go his way. For whom nothing is ever his fault, in wheel to wheel action its always the other guy that's at fault and don't get started on his blue flag antics. He is not what I would class as or want as the Number #1 representative of F1 and lets not forget his great sportsmanship with team orders and multi 21 which IMO showed more of his true nature and character and not in a good way either.

@All

I may be getting on in years now and so not down with the cool hip trends of today but I seriously question the hairstyle choices of the current F1 drivers most are truly shocking IMO but dues to Vettel on this I really think his is the worst, What was he thinking? going for? Did he lose a bet?

It sounds like you just don't really like Vettel...
Which is fine, but I feel like what you said could be said about almost every driver on the grid from time to time with an exception for a couple.
Of course they will get heated every now and then and blame one another, and it is no surprise, adrenaline is high!
It's racing. They are there to win, not just fall in line, and finish behind another driver.
I mean how would you feel if you went in to work and had one job to do that day, but couldn't get it done for one reason or another?
It would be super frustrating!
Everyone has their moments, but I think Hamilton does a good job of staying out of those "moments".
I don't like Hamilton but I still respect him as a driver.
In fact, I think his overall composure this season has gained him some points (pun intended) in my book, despite his social media rants that were quickly deleted.
And besides, everyone knows that Kimi should be the face of F1 hah.

I always thought Vettel and Hamilton were both good faces of F1. Hamilton for living up to the star-studded, celebrity, high-life bringing in young fans and Vettel for being the serious racing is everything attitude that old timers seem to like. Both had their moments of wtf a-hole moments but I expect that from everyone at the pinnacle of their profession.

What champions need to do to win, and the place fairness and sportsmanship have in a professional game is interesting. I believe there are cultural and personal differences as to where the boundaries lie.
What Ferrari got up to with Schuey, Prost and Ayrtons shenanigans, and all the drivers I mentioned above have left me cringing at times. Vettel quite regularly seems to go too far, in the past aided by Horner who I thought had very poor judgement on what was important in racing and to the sport. I cannot think of anything Hamilton has done that is un sportsman like, but do enlighten me if I have missed it.
Vettels personality off the track I am sure is beyond reproach, and goes some way to redeem his likability.
I think the level of self belief needed is huge and the mind games played often less than subtle. But these are heroes and what they do and get away with possibly has far reaching effects. I applaud drivers who manage to race hard without resorting to rash and desperate measures when it doesn't go their way.

@vbrad26

It is no secret that I am not a Vettel fan in any way shape or form (previous posts of mine prove this) and whilst it pains me to have to admit he is a talented driver I do so, but as a human being I just don't like him he rubs me up the wrong way and has done for a very long time and for that to change is IMO impossible but that really shouldn't be a problem for anyone else but me.

@all

As this season starts to approach its close it really could still be a few drivers championship as unlikely as that is we are all aware anything can and does happen in F1 we may not even get a 5 times world champ this year for sure, if Vettel and Hamilton manage to take each other out a couple of times or blow up(the cars not them) and not score any points it could get very interesting or on the other hand Hamilton may win all the races that are left and be a 5 time world champ only time will tell.

I'm actually sad there are so few races left and the season is ending bar a couple of races I really do believe we have seen some great racing and even great entire races so far this year. I would also say most of the younger drivers have really shown their talents and proved they belong in F1 and can't wait to see what happens as they grow and get better equipment exciting times ahead I think.

The new simplified front wing should be interesting. I'm curious to see how the top 3 teams adapt.

Soooooo Kvyat back at Torro. Did not expect that...either he's come back as a reformed character who has paid his dues to the Paddock and now has some mojo or...there's going to be some big crashes while we wait for the new talent in 2020.

Torro with him and Hartley are lining up to be guaranteed meh next year.

It'll be interesting to see him back as much as I'd like to see Vandoorne or Ocon stay. I think Oco is a legit talent and I'd like to see Vandoorne in a competitive car. Alonso beat him but Alonso has beaten some very good drivers that went on the be successful.

Looking forward to next season already as the battles should be even greater all across the grid next season.
I can’t see Mercedes being passed but I think Haas can push for third spot against Red Bull, plus I’m going to Monza with a friend for the weekend after doing Barcelona a couple of years ago. Hopefully my friend can pull through with the VIP weekend passes to make it extra special.
