Like many of you who collect vintage, (and probably many who don't) I am very nostalgic. I think of my father often. He passed in 2001. Father's Day isn't too far off, so I thought it might be a fitting tribute to show the watch or watches your dads wore. I don't recall mine ever wearing anything other than a Timex, shown below. I know he had a few of them over the years. This one is a 1972. I expect it probably sold for about 10 dollars in a corner drug store or discount store. His were always mated with an expansion band, probably a Speidel.

Maybe it would be nice to show your watch with your dad's. Up to you.

The one watch I remember my dad having while growing up was the Timex Ironman Triathlon/

He wore that until he took interest in the first G-Shock I bought when I was in 8th grade. A year or so after that, I bought him a matching one for Xmas and he has worn it ever since.

I REALLY need to get him a new one lol
I was thinking of picking up a CasiOak for him...

I would love to show my fathers watch, he served in the tank corp in North Africa and I do remember him wearing a watch from that time, unfortunately when he sadly passed family devisions meant I never saw that watch again.

My dad's watch, bought duty-free on a trip to Fiji in the late 70s. He gave it to me years ago, and I still wear it regularly after his death.

My father's wedding watch, a 25-jewel Croton Aquamatic. He and my mom bought each other watches for their wedding presents to each other. My father rarely wore his wedding ring but he always wore the watch.

The vintage Speidel bracelet on the right is too small for me, so I souced a new/old stock identical replacement. It is white-gold filled because that color better matches the watch case.

Alas he became too infirm to keep it wound while wearing it, so I have it now. I got him a Marathon Navigator instead, and since he wanted a stretchy bracelet, I pulled a 20mm Tessuflex out of the strap box and my watchmaker was able to fit it over the fixed bars.

My father bought this Seiko DX on a Caribbean cruise in the mid-1970s. He wore it daily for several years, but eventually retired it to the top drawer of his bedroom dresser...I always had my eye on it, but did not receive it until my parents moved out of the family home in 2015.

I had it serviced and it starts up every time I pick it from the watch box.

This one we only found after Dad died from esophageal cancer. As a family we cleaned out the apartment, and found a box of old quartz watches; it appears he bought them from Wal Mart and when the battery died, just bought another! But within the pile, I found this vintage Balco, a now defunct Swiss brand. It appears old enough and small in diameter to date to the mid-1950s, when he would have graduated high school. I had never seen this one previously, so I doubt he wore it much after I was old enough to remember (mid-1960s). My watchmaker gave it a few days at the spa, and it also has come back to life.

I wear these often, recalling my father each time. I do miss his companionship and his advice, esp. as my children embark on their own life journey.

My father was a jeweller and Bulova dealer. He bought 2 Bulova Accutron model 214 watches in 1964. One for himself, and one for me. The watches were identical. Later, in a fit of whimsy, he converted his to a Spaceview, wore it for a few years, then sold it. The Accutron with no date, is mine, and it is as it was, new in 1964. The other one I’ve shown is an Accutron Accu-Quartz from the mid 1970s. He wore that until his death in 1976. I wear my own far more than I wear his. But in his honour, I might just wear it on Father’s Day.

He was a watchmaker. For many years, he wore a Rolex Prince Observatory Duo-Dial wrist watch (also shown). His bench chronometer was a Hamilton 992 pocket watch which I have also shown.

My Dad's Seamaster 2849-2SC, which was given to him by his parents around 1959. The original leather strap is long gone, so he put a Flixoflex expandable bracelet on it. It's still nice and stretchy. It was this watch that first got me interested in Omega. He wore it for many years before eventually swapping to a Citizen quartz digital watch in the late 1970s. He now wears a Seiko 5. My Dad is (touch wood) still in good health and he gifted me this watch a couple of years ago.

My dad was a timex guy as far back as I can remember. He passed way to young in 1995, where his watch is currently, is unknown. I was given my grandfathers watch several years back, an International Watch imported as a movement only and likely cased here in the US. Its not in great shape, but it holds significant sentimental value.

Not just my dad's but also my great grandad's.

Edited photo to eliminate most of the negative space around the watch.

Great thread! And I would love to share my dad‘s watches but doesn’t wear a watch! Never has! It is a regular conversation between us, which feels like a real age reversal where he is saying he doesn’t need a watch because he has a phone, and I am trying to explain why that is wrong on so many levels!

Maybe its time to buy him one for Father's Day?
