Can someone ID my Dad's watch?

Hi All, My late Dad left me this watch. He'd be about 90 if he were alive, and he wore this all my life. I reckon it must have been bought in the late 60s but have no idea.

Sadly it stopped working for him when he was old much to his disappointment - our watch guy told us he couldn't get a particular Omega part to get it working again. It was never automatic though sadly, otherwise I'd wear it myself if I got it working.

Right now it's just a momento in a drawer, but I'd love to know it's model. Any help gratefully received!

No question that your dad loved that watch, the plating is almost completely worn off the lugs. It's nice to have an heirloom like that.

We could make some guesses about the watch, but really the information you need is inside the watch. Have it opened (or carefully pry off the back) and post some good photos of the movement and the inside of the caseback, clearly showing any numbers. The bracelet is a cheap Twist-o-Flex, no connection to the watch.

14713 is the reference number, which is how the watch is identified in the absence of any particular model name. 174xxxxx is the serial number, dating it to approximately 1960. The movement is a cal 268, which is a member of the 30mm family. That's all the identification you're likely to get.

There’s plenty of watchmakers who could get that running again. Do a quick site search for your location, city, county, state, whatever to find recommended watchmakers you could ship it to

Is there any way it could be remodelled into an automatic? Is that possible? I have no idea. But my dream would be to be able to wear it, and I'd probably break a manual.

I'm also in Ireland so I don't know where I'd be sending it, but I'll have a look, thanks so much.

Not likely, but hand-winding watches are fine, sturdy, and easy to use. I don't know where you got the idea that you would break it.

Good quality movement and one of my favourites. Get rid of the bracelet. Not original to the watch and these actually damage the lugs..

Not much you can do for the plating. Redoing will only make it look like polished brass. Replacement crowns are gold plated.

I only know of one watchmaker in the UK, so watch would need to be shipped. Simon Freese

Did the watchmaker say what part? Number of variations of this movement design and some parts are compatible between them

If you’re in Ireland obviously that’s not the UK. I’m unaware of any recommended Irish watchmakers but if you’re happy shipping to the UK I’d recommend Mitka.co.uk for this one.
