Weird whimsical watch brand Monday here. Was looking in a watch roll for a choice to wear today and this one begged to be let out for a bit of exercise.
Remington Rand made typewriters and business machines back in the day. During World War II they were awarded government contracts to produce needed materials, including Model 1911A1 pistols. I have an example of a Remington Rand produced pistol in the collection here so when this watch turned up I gathered it in. It is only 32mm in diameter excluding crown, is gold filled with an A. Schilde automatic movement. The dial has a nice early to mid 1950s styling vibe.
I have no idea about the history of Remington Rand's foray into watches. Were they intending to market them in competition with watch brands of the day? Were they promotional items to doll out to large business customers? Were they job performance awards to be given out to company employees?
Now all I need is a Remington Rand typewriter and I'll be fixed up.
Are birthday wishes appropriate for you today. If so, then happy birthday!
If not, then you shared a photo of a particularly appealing Omega watch!
Cheers! Yup….a milestone birthday, actually. Not thrilled about the big 6-0, but I made it! The watch was Norman’s. (Sure miss his knowledge and watch wisdom around these parts.)
Um….slight change of watch from my earlier post. My wife just surprised me with this little birthday gem! Smart girl knows my obsessions well! She also has fine taste in wrapping paper!
