Flying Officer. Missing some paint in the bezel and there's what I think is radium burn on the dial but other than that it's in pretty good shape. Surprisingly accurate.

Venus 150? Are there 4 screws on the back of the case?

I'm learning about Gallet - I have no choice - it's far and away my watchmakers favorite watch and
he's been slowly educating a dull student. He's got a crazy collection.

i'm curious because I've not seen that brevet language on a gallet dial before - it's referencing the case, yes? It's all very cool.

based on what I've seen, your bezel is in very good shape.

nice watch

I'm still learning as well. I've never opened it but I believe it is a Venus 150. It does have the 4 screws on the caseback.

The Astronic's got a new, correct, introvabile clasp... just need the proper crown and it's done.

Haha i feel like a silly groupie today but that is one of the nicer viceroys I've seen. Rolex was my thing before I started branching out. is that an "Oyster" crown? Also - do you know if the dial was lumed / touched up (like 50 years ago?) It looks really sharp... *edit - I missed the part where you wrote you felt it might be original. I can't really tell from the pic but I know some watchmakers used to mix radium with gold leaf and touch these old dials up. The hands look that way...

Yes, original dial and hands, from about 1938. There was no "SWISS MADE" as it was apparently purchased in Switzerland by the original owner, a certain Jack Mayer (engraved on the case back). According to James Dowling, this was typical of Rolex of that era, to have "SWISS MADE" only on exported watches.

Many years ago, my Uncle went to NY to visit my Dad who was attending USMMA at Kings Point. My Dad took my Uncle to lunch at Inagiku in The Waldourf. As they were seated, Dad noticed Jacques Cousteau at the table next to them. He quickly grabbed the Menu and politely ask for his autograph.

on one of my top 10 today, underrated and not too well known outside of wisdom, the Guinand 40. on an entirely inappropriate strap to see how it looks on black, I like the look so the GGB should do fine.
