The faithful 6309-7049 says it's time to get the wig busted...again.

The Lift Span, a 300' x 42', 4 million pound steel structure I'm currently dedicated to fits in between the towers shown in this photo. It contains two travel lanes for autos and a railroad in the center. In normal times it will be in the mid-up position with autos traveling. When large vessels come through, it will be raised to the up position. Infrequently, it will be lowered to accommodate train traffic. If you study the portions of bridge already built, you can see the upper travel lane for autos and the lower RR sections. Overall the length is about 2500' from end to end.

Here is a view from the top of the Lift Span followed by a side view:

The cause of my angst. These are some of the backing bars (2" x 3/4" steel in the bottom of the weld joint) we had to remove. They were originally installed so long ago that corrosion set in, preventing our ability to produce acceptable welds once we fit everything in the field and began. All of the backing was removed and replaced. The picture following the backing is our intrepid inspector making sure things are right.

Started the day wearing my latest acquisition. Stepped out to go for a run and forgot I was still wearing it, but decided to leave it on the wrist - call it a first test!

    20170804_103242.jpg

SKX013, smaller than the 007 and light enough to run with, I'm happy to report.

Then, switched over to my second latest acquisition for a quick jaunt to Winter Park via Denver.

    Have a good weekend everybody!

& it hasn't been a good 1. Ended up in the Hospital , sliced my side of my thumb clean , wide open on a job. Bottom of customers dresser drawer had a metal track guide & I ran my thumb underneath the entire length of it..Hurt like a SOB!

Hope you're doing ok! How many stitches did you need or did they pack it to close it later?

I'm good now. They used a medical super glue to close it the doctor said it was clean cut through and through couldn't use stitches cuz it's at the bend of my thumb. The real pain in the arse is the splint they put on my thumb

Still sporting my faithful 6309-7049...but with a band change and the addition of its little brother re-issue SRP777K1.

Good times at the car cruise with my Seiko autos and my '07 Ford Police Interceptor...
