I’ve come to John Prine late in life. A friend of mine, rabid fan since his Old Town School Of Folk Music Days, turned me on to him. He’s a genius. John F...ing Prine indeed! Usually use that for Neal F...ing Young but very apropos. Super nice guy too.
Saw James Taylor in concert in the 70's, a real experience. I mentioned seeing Uriah Heep earlier. Figured I'd expand on that. These were basically studio musicians with little or no stage experience at that time. They had little more than their instruments and a very crudely done painted canvas back drop. All but one of then seemed a bit timid in front of a live audience. A guitarist was the exception, he was having a ball. Despite all this they gave a great performance, their music doing the talking. Perhaps the first concert I went to was Leon Russel , I think it was mainly the circus album music. Mamma Cass made a surprise visit. She had been changing planes at the airport and heard Leon Russel was in town. She came on stage singing, accompanying Russel , which was a surprise to him, he had no idea she was there. He was seated and she came up and sat on his lap, which had to have nearly collapsed the chair.
Been listening to the new Judas Priest album (seeing them live next month). Its fun to go back to my youth and head bang a little. Their new lead guitarist (well, "new" means the last 8 years or so), Richie Faulkner, is incredible.
Eyes on Isles hockey podcast...because Im a long suffering Islanders fan whos still mad about Pajama Boy (Tavares).
The sounds of summer...buzzing lawn mowers, buzzing Cicadas, and this buzzing too... Pest control guy is here right now, all suited up. Have warned the neighbours, so hopefully there will be a little less buzzing soon. I'm typically a live and let live kinda guy, because we moved out to the country so the animals etc. were all here first. I can tolerate small nests, but this one is as big as your head - the pest control guy said this was the biggest he's seen personally on a house.
So continuing my search of junk , charity , curio shops continues to pay off . Found a junk shop in Rock Ferry on the Wirral & asked if they had any old records for sale . Anyway after much searching they found about 200 hundred albums in a old cupboard & here's the pick of the best , Rolling Stones No2 mono blind man album first pressing & Led Zeppelin III first pressing variants with & without Peter Grant executive producer credits , all for the princely sum of £10 English pounds .
