I found Keith Richards sang in a choir in 1943 when he was a 9 year school boy. It was at an official ceremony for Elizabeth. He was in the choir singing soprano until age changed his voice. The 1943 one was documented although it’s possible I’m off a year or two as I was reading it yesterday and my memory often fails me but there is scant evidence he did it again in the early 1950’s.

To all you music aficionados: I’d be curious as to whether you feel that “Pet Sounds” lives up to the hype of being one of the most important and influential albums of all time.

It is interesting to listen to the instrumental version of “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” and then take a listen to how tight the vocals were: Pretty impressive on both counts. I would add that the music was backed by the famous California group of session musicians called the Wrecking Crew. None better…

IMO a big yes. I feel kinda bad about The Beach Boys. I was born after the Beatles broke up but when I was 8 years old I got a copy of “Meet the Beatles” from then on I was a die hard Beatle fan. For some reason there were some kids in my school who insisted the Beatles were horrible and The Beach Boys were the ultimate band. Unfortunately they wouldn’t stfu about it and it turned me off to The Beach Boys.

Years later I got a copy of pet sounds, read about The Beach Boys and realized Brian Wilson was (is) a genius. Never saw them but saw Jardine a while back. They were experimenting and living the music at the same tier of the many great bands of their era that went on to influence bands till this day.

I think what Brain did with sloop John says a lot, took a great song by the Kingston Trio and imo made it better. I know I put it up prior but I can’t get enough.

Sir Paul said “God Only Knows” is his favorite song; good enough for me…

By the way, the diverse array of instruments used on “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” is staggering:

There was a clip of Brian performing “god only knows” where he said Paul told him it was his favorite song but Brian wasn’t sure if it was true. (Kinda funny) I saw Brian talking about the song and the “I may not always love you” to open a love song hit him as so unique he fell in love with it. It really is a great song. Genius

Just a passing thought here and no disrespect to The Beach Boys meant but perhaps this is one reason they flew a little under the stones and Beatles etc. wouldn’t it be nice is a great song but it can be very easy to listen to it as a “happy song” and have no clue how Brian put his soul into the song and would drive himself crazy to get every note perfect. Many probably don’t appreciate that side of him. But it is music and it’s always subjective I hope Brian is doing OK I saw some pictures and a video that was fortunately removed from YouTube he seems to be struggling a bit but we are at a point where most of my favorite musicians are hitting their 80’s.

Agree 100%, Al. In fact, I’d have to say Midnight Oil is the best live band I have ever seen. Their shows are so good!
