I own the 2001 documentary and it is a little depressing:

Have you seen the earlier one? How do they compare? I am a dihard Pogues fan BTW.

I will watch it. I have loved the Pouges since I was 15 and am a die hard too. I learned about the Popes on the documentary and ordered all three disks today. and a live show DVD. The new documentary is more than a little depressing, but it really provides the roots of the depression. I just ordered a used copy of the 2001 documentary.

The 30th anniversary concert is pretty good, "Live at The Town and Country Club" is the Pogues at their peak but is only available on VHS. Some Amazon sellers have transferred to DVD, but it is still VHS quality. There is a Japan concert that was available on Laser Disc that is very good, and the documentary Completely Pogued is cool too but also VHS only. Some of the Popes stuff is pretty good, but never lived up to the Pogues in my opinion. If you haven't used it, I lived and died by this site: http://pogues.com/ I don't have some of the newer stuff, but at one point I had collected everything produced by the Pogues or related.

I think the most amazing thing Shane MacGowan ever wrote is The Dunes, and Ronnie Drew of the Dubliners gives a haunting performance.

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the release of Sandinista. Revisiting it offers a few gems that flew under the radar. Just killer.

Nice! I was fortunate to see them on the Combat Rock tour. Would’ve loved to see them earlier but Calgary wasn’t an early tour stop. A few months later we drove to Seattle to see them open for The Who.

At least one cut from Strummer’s Streetcore has become an almost daily routine around here. So damn good.

What a year... so many lives lost along with survivors and others with lasting impacts during a global pandemic; wrecked havoc on economies; cities and towns that have seen social unrest and violence; and here in the USA we have politics turning neighbor against neighbor. The closing days of this year though have given rise to comfort and hope for the world in the coming year on so many levels with vaccines including a light in this dark period.

I am someone that has always liked the snow and cold and finds opportunities so far north to recreate in this. While we are approaching the darkest period of the year, I am optimistic in what is to come beyond the winter solstice as the sun light will again increase, our outlook brightens, and we approach normal or the new normal. I am truly hopeful all boats will rise together.

So what is my point in this post? Well, I have been listening to the latest release called Songs of Hope and Comfort from Yo Yo Ma and Kathryn Scott available on Qobuz Hi-Res and elsewhere. Beautiful cello and piano. I listened to it 3 times today already. Highly recommended.
