It’s December 16th. 250 years ago today, this extraordinarily gifted, irascible, and uncompromising genius was born. Classical music’s punk rocker, Ludwig van Beethoven said more in 9 symphonies than his contemporaries did in dozens more.

Here’s Glenn Gould (in 1970), another quirky talent, performing Beethoven’s Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major op.73 "Emperor".
