We ran into him on Leyte Island in the Philippines of all places. Decent enough guy to talk to.
I stopped into Orphan Annie’s in Honolulu with some buddies in the summer of 1979 in the late afternoon for for adult beverages...Evening fell and we were still there, the place started filling up....unbeknownst to us Talking Heads we’re playing that night...I believe they were returning from playing Tokyo....the table we were sitting at was right at the edge of a small dance floor center stage...what a great unexpected treat...during the break the band just saddled up to the bar...friendly folks...great evening....can’t believe that was more than forty years ago...time flies...

Made the mistake of trying to listen to only one song of this lady’s smooth sultry voice. That one song ended up to be many which ended up keeping me up all night....I know, lots of 'ups'....

I came across this song from several years ago by the Traveling Wilburys.
An interesting group made up of George Harrison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, and Roy Orbison.

"Tweeter and the Monkey Man" with Bob Dylan singing the lead vocals.

I love the Traveling Wilburys. Pretty rare anymore to see a group of independently successful artists form a collective to create music. Which is too bad, because I think there are a few that would really do cool stuff together

I personally prefer a more hard edged version, like the one by The Headstones...

Gone all old school with ,

Have not dug out tapes for a long time - passed a lot of them on as they have got popular again+ Kids will not find everything on Youtube. I regret letting some go / good to have hard copy.

For new (ish) stuff I am liking the Beths - easy listening / not sure they have ‘their’ style yet but I like the vibe and nice to be cheerful.

#

Also listening to Starcrawler - old style antagonistic rock. They do seem a tad edgy / not always an easy watch - which is good for these days. Not sure yet how manufactured they are but everything has to play the game a bit to get mainstream / plays I guess.

I used to love my tapes and looks like you do too , I must have had over 100 of them at one time . But when the CD revolution took place I gave most of them to my younger brother, I might ask him if he still has them . I bought the Oasis one for 50P at the local Car boot sale recently.

Gets my vote - Musical heroes.... I like the Bowie quote.. At one point Nile Rodgers turned around and said: “Hey David, did I make this song too funky?” Bowie looked at him and said: “No darling, is there such a thing.
This was Nile in the UK 2018 - top gig :0)

Have you ever wondered what Fairport Convention would sound like if they were Irish and given hallucinogenic drugs? Wonder no longer....

Jazz at the Pawnshop on SACD, one of the best live jazz recording ever made. Stockholm, 1976.
