Do you like a killer bassline?
Listen to the beginning of this extended version of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going on?” There’s an incredible piano and bass duet, with the bass being played by way under appreciated Motown house musician James Jameson.
The story goes that Gaye wanted only him for the bass part, and was told he was out playing at a club. So they went and got him for the session, but he was so drunk he couldn’t even sit up straight to play on a chair. So the part you hear is him playing the entire song on his back!
