Do you like a killer bassline?

Listen to the beginning of this extended version of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going on?” There’s an incredible piano and bass duet, with the bass being played by way under appreciated Motown house musician James Jamerson.

The story goes that Gaye wanted only him for the bass part, and was told he was out playing at a club. So they went and got him for the session, but he was so drunk he couldn’t even sit up straight to play on a chair. So the part you hear is him playing the entire song on his back!

The dance scene and independent artists continue to take a huge hit during the crisis - a lot of venues will not recover while corporations, streaming services and the big acts will hoover things up as we come out the other side. UK music contributed £5.2 billion to GDP in 2018... but is now deemed non-essential it seems. I thought this old classic sums it up....

Reflex - the politics of dancing ...I heard it on the airwaves The politicians Are now the DJs The broadcast was spreading Station to station ...Like an infection Across the nation...…….

Glam Crazee , I don’t know why but I feel the need to wear Sequins and Satin .
Fond memories. I remember seeing most of those performed on Top Of The Pops in the early 70s

If you dig a good sounding guitar in an open or dropped tuning, this is a nice one. Great performance.

We ran into him on Leyte Island in the Philippines of all places. Decent enough guy to talk to.
