Had an 80's afternoon yesterday. Despite Linda Ronstadt and Joanie Mitchell preceding her, Pat Benatar made it cool for guys to listen to chic rock n roll. Put Crimes of Passion into the disc changer. Next came The Smithereens - 11. And of course some Phil Collins - Face Value..... .....and Hello, I Must Be Going.
Love Greg Dulli. Big fan of AW's Gentlemen and Black Love days. Love the Twilight Singers' stuff too!
Fantastic! Yes, "Gentlmen" started it for me. I read a review in Spin in '93 I believe, bought the CD, and that was the start of listening to all things Dulli. 20+ years and many live shows later, I never tire of his material.
What a fantastic thread. Enjoyed reading about everyone's likes. Special thanks to Archer, I clicked on the Mohrs, as I had never heard of them. I liked their music. For me, I listen to almost everything (not much country/western, or classical). I go to lots of concerts, several a month. Listen to lots of music. Some of my all time favorite bands in no particular order are: Flogging Molly, Pennywise, Bad Religion, Offspring, Metallica, Dire Straits, Scorpions, Mötley Crüe, Van Halen (don't want to start a debate, but I actually like both Sammy and David Lee Roth), Muse, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Stiff Little Fingers, Foo Fighters (amazing to see live - probably my favorite band to see live), Berlin, Kid Rock, The Distilers, Dropkick Murphy's, U2, Tom Petty, Phil Collins, Fleetwood Mack, Barenaked Ladies, Black Flag, Rihanna, Shakira, Prince, Johnny Cash, Buddy Guy, Rodrigo Y Gabriella, Carlos Santana, and many many more. I just love music.
Just listened to My Immortal by Evanescence again. For some reason it always brings tears to my eyes.
Other Lives, Dust Bowl III I spoke with Jesse (the vocalist) before a gig in Liverpool and told him I was really looking forwards to hearing this , I'd probably die when they played it. He said "That's lucky, it's the last track, you'll hear the rest of the set". Smart bugger.
Finishing listening to this CD after beginning it last night. Bought the vinyl when the album was first released and have always particularly enjoyed it.
Sunday's Prairie Home Companion was a rerun from 2008. The musical guest was Jorma Kaukonen, guitarist formerly with Jefferson Airplane/Starship and Hot Tuna. He played a fairly standard rendition of Embryonic Journey, and was joined by Barry Mitterhoff on mandolin. If you can separate the instruments in your mind's ear and concentrate on the mandolin, you'll hear some amazing stuff. Embryonic Journey
