I was listening to Black Sabbath's "We Sold Our Soul For Rock 'N' Roll" on vinyl but the wife unit made me "shut it down early" since it's a school night. She can be such a "kill joy" at times. Anyway, I packed it up and put the vinyl away in my old military helmet bag...which works quite well for carrying my small vinyl collection.
Roger that. Based on your posts (here as well as other OF locations), I'm beginning to think that we're about the same age. So...late 40's to early 50's? I'm 51. Rock on.
You nailed it. 49, turning 50 early next year. Hard to believe it's been 32 yrs since the release of "Kill 'Em All". We've still got many more years of listening pleasure left though!
Listening to Skynyrd's "Street Survivors" on LP in the backyard before the wife unit shuts it down (like she did last night). Gotta git while the gittin's good.
Dee Jay Mad Dog on the ones and twos... Well...the one anyway. Woot woot! That Lynard Skynard album cover is disturbing considering the fate of three of the members in '77...
Reading the Metallica/Kill 'Em All reminds me of my days working in a steel processing plant in 1986. One of my co-workers was a guy named Fred Cotton. He was in a local band called "Spastik Children" that featured James and Cliff (and later Kirk). Fred put me on the guest list for a show at Rock On Broadway in San Francisco. When I drove by and saw the crowd waiting to get in, I wet my pants and drove home. I don't remember what excuse I gave Fred, but I remember being surprised he was sober enough to remember he hadn't seen me there. That was when I discovered Metallica, and man, did I love it. No f*ckin' keyboard! (which I was getting tired of hearing at the time). Edit: the Internet has it all. Shocked to find pics of Spastik Children! Here's Kirk, James, and Fred. Hilarious.
Saw the cover, thought "that's gotta be in Oakland." Something prompted me to press play. Now I'm spinning it on YouTube. So far it's excellent. Nothing like that Metallica/Rush/Pearl Jam stuff I like.
Tommy went from skateboard punk king to a tremendous musical talent. His music is so good it defies description.
Good idea! I saw his son play last summer with Sammy Hagar, and they did a lot of Led Zep songs - a pleasant surprise for me. At one point Jason performed the same drum solo that his father had done, with video of John in the background playing at the same time he was...was pretty cool.
