.or its a 105.002
The “d” of Speedmaster is in the middle of the “E” of OMEGA which is correct only for an "A5" dial.
On all subsequent AML dials, the "d" of Speedmaster falls closer to the left side of the "E" of OMEGA (Pre-PROFESSIONAL, and PROFESSIONAL).

P.S. Funny enough, "Moonwatch Only" does not mention anything about the location of the "d" in correlation to the "E" on any of the Pre-Pro dial descriptions...

I guess they had not yet crossed over Rolex-lore into Omegaland 😀

Maybe it is going to be in the paperback edition. "Moonwatch Only - The Forgotten Details" 😉

That white dial is surely a pretty one.Though If there's no extract confirmation or surefire provenance it will be a controversial one.

..I inverted the colors of that image using an online tool to convince myself that the plots are indeed painted black....

I'm sorry for my noobness, how does this "inverted" trick help in this? Doesn't the original photo with black lume plots suffice?👎 Curious to learn a new trick.

Arguably it doesn’t - I did it purely to satisfy myself that this wasn’t a photoshopped pic of an inverted dial. Although I still can’t explain the dark blotches around the 52second plot. I do hope it’s a silver dial - but I’m leaning towards some photoshop magic. I do hope I’m wrong.

One thing that I think is useful - to my eye it’s easier to identify the characteristics of the bezel. But I want to do more experimentation to check if my observations are reliable.

I know that some rolex dealerships modded some 6238s on behalf of clients: the silver hands being hard to read on grey dials, they painted the markers in black to increase visibility, on client requests. Its not the same thing here as the dial was modified, but maybe it was a special request by a client as well (even if it seems unlikely, as there's no evidence of Omega producing unique dials for customers, unlike Rolex).
So, maybe, it's just a big-ass fake ! It will be near impossible to authenticate it🍿

Wow, as expected. Will be very curious to know the backstory.

I don't get the rationale for putting white chrono hands on an off-white dial except to satisfy one person's whim; it's not an appealing dial and handset combination IMHO. On the other hand, if the chrono hands were in a contrasting colour like blue, like the Autavia Siffert, it would be a great piece.

"These dials were discovered many years ago by the vendor solely as dials with their batch reference sticker applied on the back and no dial feet. They are presented today fitted to the correct watches from the period."

So it sounds like the kinds of dials from catalogue made by suppliers, for Omega to consider, but never went into production?

singer but also stern frees made dials to show to manufacturers. I have also seen these kind of books for cloissone dial for instance from stern frees. but considering singer, this is really similar to rolex since its from the same period. collectors bought these dials and swap them for standard dialed Daytonas or speedmasters. the only ting is with Rolex you get BSstories like, "the following watch found me". what I like here is the open attitude and full disclosure.
