Will Speedmaster Moonwatch co-axial come with ceramic bezel?

I was hoping the new co-axial speedmaster would have a ceramic bezel. The precious metal moonwatches have the ceramic bezels. How many years will it take for the Stainless Steel ones to have the same?

Since it's the basic Speedmaster I don't they will ever put a ceramic bezel on it, they'll leave that for their special watches.

To be honest the ceramic bezel is the one thing on the new ed white I would change
The aluminium feels more age appropriate and looks more "correct"

Then why not put a hesalite crystal and solid back to make it even more age appropriate and correct? I think Omega hit this one perfectly for a luxury product.

Because the ceramic bezel changes the appearance in a way that sapphire front and back doesn't in my very humble opinion

Fair enough, but I think Omega figured it would be harder to sell a $14k watch with an aluminum bezel.

I am sure you are right it's a balancing act and they can't please us all! Still, love the watch anyways.

But they have "upgraded" pretty much everything, the caliber, the sapphire and the clasp to make it modern. It is not 100% true to the original anyway. Adding a ceramic bezel seems logical as an upgraded version of the moonwatch along with the other changes.
Maybe they will do that after squeezing every possible dollar from this one, then they will have that ceramic bezel with another fancy price tag.

I’m no expert, but I would think that a ceramic bezel for the new Ed White costs a lot more to replace than an aluminum one for a Speedmaster.

I don’t see why they would even consider this. You can’t move too far from the original or it just becomes a blingy caricature. Kind of what happened to the Rolex dive watches. I prefer the basic and less shiny designs. Aluminum was good enough for Buzz Aldrin. It’s good enough for me.

The canopus and sedna speedmasters have an aluminum bezel, so thats not why.

No one really knows why ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

No, we don't know why. If a ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal, slightly tan lume, clear back or no adjustment of the clasp on the fly is a deal breaker folks will just have to move on. Seldom do we get everything we want.

Just curious whether anyone has any idea of what percentage of Omega’s sales are derived from the Speedmaster line and the plain Jane stainless steel hesalite Speedmaster Professional in particular? Anyone dare to hazard a guess?

Though, many of those watches came back beat to within an inch of their lives, and after every mission got full services/parts replacements by Omega.

Maybe what’s “good enough for Buzz” isn’t quite the standard for us mortals. 😗

Would a ceramic bezel pose an issue for NASA flight qualification? I would assume that aluminum would essentially be at zero risk of shattering. Maybe it's more similar to sapphire than hesalite. I don't know enough about the ceramic to anticipate it's mode of failure.

Not that it would necessarily apply to the current hesalite (unless it's actually intended to maintain that standard now or in the future) or sapphire models, but maybe that's a factor?

What’s the advantage of ceramic? Surely the paint on it will still scratch just like aluminium?

The ceramic isn't painted it is whatever color you see, and ceramic is VERY hard to scratch.

Oh I see. I’ve always found it a charm of the older models that they often have very scratched up - and obviously used - bezels.

When did they start using aluminium for bezels?..
