I hope the diehard MoonWatch fans don't roast me too much over this, but I was wondering if any of the members here on OF have tried to put an Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch on the Nylon Velcro watch band that comes with the Bulova Lunar Pilot, 96B251. I own both watches, but I gave the Bulova to my Father-in-Law to wear, so now it resides in another state and I haven't had a chance to try it. Both have 20mm lug widths, but I'm not sure it will work due to the differences in lug-to-lug and thickness dimensions. As pointed out to me on another forum, there may also be strap fitting issues depending on the space between the lug-holes and the side of the case. Any help would be appreciated

Speedmaster Lug-to-Lug: 48mm
Bulova 96B251 Lug-to-Lug: 52mm

Speedmaster thickness: 14mm
Bulova 96B251 thickness: 13.5mm

I can’t imagine any reason it wouldn’t fit. The Bulova is the watch with the infuriatingly small clearance between the installed spring bar and the 12/6 o’clock perimeter of the case... in fact my bulova essentially can’t even fit a standard nato band without curved spring bars. My bulova came with the bracelet and no strap I believe so I can’t verify it for you, but the Moonwatch should fit just about anything a 20mm width.

 

Thanks, yeah the bracelet version and strap version of the Bulova have different clearances between the lugholes and side of the case. Not the best scenario for strap interchangeability for the user if you ask me.

 

Well, in case anyone is interested, I did it, and the Bulova strap fits really well. I like the way it looks. Too bad the info on the patch is incorrect, but I'll go with it anyway.

Nice! How do you like it? I almost got the short version while searching around.

 

It’s great. Attention to detail is amazing. The short is a little more practical though obviously... the long is a bit more of a novelty but I still love it.
